Turn Signals

I had a bike from '84 that had self-cancelling turn signals.

Do they weigh too much to be put on modern Supersports, or would it be a cost issue?

Hey jay-d last time i looked your "not at all" sexy honda had stock signals. We are talking after market. You have your opinion, and i have mine and mine is that you are wrong!

I disagree. I think most drivers when confronted with a rider making signals and gestures that he doesn't understand will actually slow down and try to figure out what's happening.

They'll think you're just waving to another rider, then the driver will look around to see if the other rider waved back or not, then go home and start a discusstion on their forums about waving etiquette.

What are these foreign gestures you speak of infidel!?

On a serious note though-- I would advise against this because 99.9% of drivers probably have no idea what hand signals are.

Where do you get your stats from? How many drivers are there in the world? What's 99.9% of that? You're pretty much stating almost EVERY drive doesn't know what hand signals are. That's why they disable your signals in your safety course.

It's not bad advice at all. It's the truth. It would go something like this.

Motorcycle rider signals right hand turn to indicate a lane change.
Driver behind him has no idea what that means and ignores it and proceeds to make lane change as well to pass rider hastily.
Motorcycle rider starts his lane change and crash!!

The drivers excuse will be, he didn't signal, it's that simple.

It may seem like I'm against hand signals; I'm really not. It's the fact that drivers lack the education that makes hand signals relevant. Using hand signals that majority of drivers don't know is dangerous to riders.

In case they dont know wtf you are doing, when you turn your head to do a shoulder check, they usually get the idea. In fact I find people are MORE aware of what I am doing when I hand signal and often add it in when on the highway. Its a movement they weren't expecting therefore you now have their attention before you make a manouver.

DING DING DING!!!! Thats exactly what I find. I have a bike with no turn signals and I have yet to have a problem changing lanes properly.
