Motorcyclist charged with stunt driving, doing almost twice the speed limit
THE CANADIAN PRESS

COBOURG, ONT. — A man has been charged with stunt driving after police clocked a motorcycle driving at almost twice the speed limit northeast of Cobourg.
Northumberland OPP spotted the motorcycle being driven at 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on County Road 23 on Monday evening.
Mike Vanderwel, 22, of Alnwick-Haldimand Township, was charged with stunt driving.
His licence was suspended for seven days, and the motorcycle was impounded for a week.

Nice catch. They seem to be getting better and better at it too. May we see many more in the days and weeks to come.

142? Hell, I did that on the way to Starbucks last night. Cops have no sense of humour.

man...that sucks.

Poor bastard.

Hope he gets a lawyer.

those 80km roads here are silly. Many of them It should be 100km. Someone once told me the speed limits were dropped during the 70s & 80s oil crisis, and were never put back up or adjusted.

he shouldn't have stopped, I do that coming down my driveway.

I was on that road Monday as well, so easy to do that speed without even noticing! Poor guy!
Such a sham!

Instead of a mandatory suspension/impound, they should make you put a car tire on the rear of your bike for X weeks. That will make the bike so ill handling you won't want to do the speed limit, let alone exceed it.

And in lots of areas they're dropping the limit down to 60 because someone moves in on the 80 road, has a bunch of kids, and then b**ches that the limit is too dangerous and someone's going to run over the kids. Even more annoying is the people in these areas that will drive 60 in an 80 just because they think the limit is too high and then make it a pain to get around them.

I lived beside an 80 road growing up and did plenty of running around near it and bicycle riding on it. You know how my parents dealt with it? They taught me that cars are bigger and faster than me and that if I walk in front of one, I will die. Pretty easy to figure out to stay off the road when a car's coming.

I dont get why this is considered stunt driving. He is in the middle of nowhere, not doing any stunts. Why cant speeding just be speeding?

I feel like this is a great form of natural selection, stupid kids playing on the road grow up to be stupid adults and we have way too many of those. Thin the herd!

Because all the crooked pirates involved with this roadside scam wouldn't make any money if it was just speeding.
There's payoffs, kickbacks and bribes to consider. Why do you think it costs so much for towing and impound fees?

I'm guessing you're almost 30? lol Seems unheard of these days.
My parents/teachers told me the same thing, but where I grew up we didn't have dedicated school buses or school zones with 5km/h speed limit "when flashing".

I still find it amazing how they can just drop the speed limits on roads on a whim with no engineering or traffic study, which might make the road even MORE dangerous. They have done studies in the UK and the US that show just that. But hey... if you lower the speed limits, YOU KNOW (without any studies) things will be safer, right? They think they do, but having absurd limits, you bunch up traffic, which makes some drivers impatient and then you get accidents.

Ahhh - but it's all good.... except now if you are doing 100 in a 50 zone that should be an 80 zone.... instead of not getting a ticket you can bend over.... just saying.
