The federal government gave this as a holiday, Why are not all the province doing the same?

well I think it goes like this…

politician “oooh, looks like a good idea, let’s make this a holiday“

business lobbyist “if you do I’m taking away my “suport” cash”

politician “we recognize the hardship … blah…blah….stand in solidarity….blah blah…but you still have to go to work”

I would like the government to set up an inquiry into people responsible for the wrong doing. (Catholic Church, police forces) and bring them to justice. It might mean more to those affected than wearing orange shirts.

So...get this...

Fiancee's company made a bunch of shirts for it.
Fiancee's boss told them to wear the shirt and take some camera shots. They did.
At the end of the day, it hit my fiancee to tell the boss "Um...maybe don't post these on social media or whatever. This is akin to having smiley shots for Remembrance Day...as if we're celebrating for those who died on our behalf."

Gotta love the marketing team for that one! Best part is: upper management is all white...not helping the situation at all...

Very good point.
The people that need to be reconciled with are the ones that set up up the rail and highway blockades.
I wonder what they would say to a bunch of white folks with orange shirts?

Government thanks throwing money at it will fix the problems

This is like Remembrance day. Somebody died take the day off.
The Squeeze and I attend the service at the Cenotaph. What are we to do for T&R? Wearing a certain colour shirt while enjoying a day off seems like phoning it in.

You could have went to Ottawa today.

I think the best case perspective is that it has some people thinking about (as already clearly demonstrated in this thread). It will probably quickly evolve over time

LIUNA has mandated it's a day off for their members in Ontario (our labour is unionised with them). Weirdly, I haven't seen anything from them about Truth & Reconciliation, but they were sure fast to claim it as a paid holiday...

gov't could have picked a sat or sunday to observe the holiday,

why burn a work day? (not a serious question, we know why)

Another riding day. I’ll get an orange sprinkle donut in support.

In all seriousness - I don’t think it should be a day off, same as a Remembrance day. Kids should be at school, learning about this day, adults should be at work, remembering the victims, discussing how we can do better. Not going to a cottage or for a ride.

Trudy didn’t think about meeting today with any of the participants.

Instead he jet setted his way to tofino for a family vacation

This government created the day and clearly don’t respect it. What a slap in the face to the natives.

Ontario chose to opt out.

Not entirely...
I'm working for the Ont. Gov't today at double time and a half 'cuz it's a statutory holiday.
Doug was very careful with his words when he announced the province's position on this holiday
...Lol
