Trouble With 407 ETR billing using your bike?

Anybody else get overcharged every single month by the 407 against their bike? I have 2 transponders for my cars, and also have my bike plate registered to the account, I don't pay a camera charge by having my bike plate registered to the account. However, I take a short trip from Dixie Road to the 410 North every day after work and they never miss my bike plate on the entrance but miss it at least 5 times a month on exit. Same trip 20 times a month, only trips on the 407 I take each month. Each trip is 82 cents kilometer charge. But, when they miss the plate on exit they average your monthly kilometers and charge you a rate for that trip. Their math comes to $4.50 each trip! So, every month I get overcharged around $20 and have to call to dispute, you can't dispute kilometers online. I was told they added "plate Protection" to my account for my bike and the problem should be resolved, but was not. When I asked what plate protection was the agent didn't even know how to explain it to me but said it would resolve the issue. Well, it didn't so I either call every month or pay.

Anybody from the area will know that 410 north ramp at Steeles has been closed all summer, so only way to get north of Brampton from that area in less than a half hour is to go 407 to 410 north, or I just wouldn't use it.

Only thing I can add here is bikes don't pay camera charges period . Regardless of if you have anything set up or not. Bike = no camera charge.

Goodluck with the rest

Sent from phone, excuse typos.

I noticed on my this month a "Flat Rate" charge for my bikes only trip on the 407 because they missed me on the exit, but based on the trip calculator that is in my favour if I remember where I got on correctly

They charged me for riding the 407 on the motorcycle in August.

Creative revenue streaming; the telecoms have been at it for years. Oops something went wrong, we'll just charge you x dollars and hope you didn't notice

I was getting charged for no transponder even though bikes don't require them. They would reverse the charge but of course that involves the hassle of having to contact them to straighten it out.
I even got one bill showing a refund for a no transponder charge from a previous trip with a new no transponder charge for a later trip all with the same plate. Soooo frustrating.

I got a few flat rate charges this summer commuting, but it was a win for me, my one way trip was over $20.

Hydro tried this with my parents. The meter stopped working so they substituted the previous years data and told them to pay it. The previous year, they were using electric heat and home all winter, the year in question, they had changed their heat source and were away most of the winter. Hydro refused to understand why their way wasn't correct.

My father went through something similar with an electric heat conversion! They sent someone out insisting the meter was broken after trying to charge him his "usual" usage when they saw a sudden sharp decrease in consumption. At least that's how I remember it; I was to young to understand or care at the time, but I do remember a lot of cursing on the phone lol

I thought the rules changed and they were supposed to charge you only from the previous entry point to the exit the camera picked you up.

Slightly serious: wheelie through both exit and entrance next time or superman your plate with your foot =P

That's illegal.
I believe you can call them and have your bike plate linked to your account therefore no transponder required.
If that was done then they should have no issue.

That isn't the problem the OP is having. The OPs situation is very frustrating to deal (I've had to deal with it before too).

Then maybe post a link to MTO contact and make a thread for everyone to flood them with emails/faxes/phone calls.

IIRC they used to charge you for one exit if they didn't catch your entrance or exit. Obviously they have not discovered a new way to monetize their asset without raising rates again and the ensuing outrage (like how they added a $1 charge to every trip now).

OP: Do you have clear plate cover over your plate?

I ride on 407 almost every day and found sometimes it wouldn't catch me when I exited. This was most often at my usual exit ramp near my work but sometimes at other exits. It may have been dirt on the plate cover or bad reflections but when I eliminated the cover the problems disappeared.

Opposite to what your saying that USED be the rule you only got charged to the next exit, now under "new rules they take the number of kms traveled by all vehicles using the highway at that time of day and they charge you the "averaged trip km", now

As D said illegal, get caught doing it and you catch the additional HTA charge of evading tolls..lol Likely by doing the "superman" foot cover, you might also just catch a S172 charge.

Haha... I'm pretty sure ending his post with =P was and indication of the flippant nature of that statement; but thanks for clearing it up ;) lol

... so serious around here these days
