Triumph Thruxton R (2016)

I'm itching for this bike, but it's pricey $20K+.

Anyone have one? Any first hand reviews?
The R is vastly different than the standard thruxtons. The 2016 model is 1200cc, 96hp and full ohlins suspension stock.

I was on the hunt for a Sport Classic, but aside from the collector feel this is a hands down winner IMO.

I'm looking for a modern cafe style bike. The Sport Classic has it's quirks, the moto guzzi V7 is a pig.

Thoughts? Anyone seen one in the flesh?

Beautiful bike, saw it at the bike show and at GP bikes but have not ridden it.

Test ride an R9T. It is the closest competitor and about the same price, or look for a used one.

Rode a friends for 100 kms when we swapped bikes on a ride and it rides as well as it looks. Like the Thurston R, the attention to detail is evident everywhere.

Sorry I'm no help but that silver/grey is awesome. Love it with the small fairing.

The knee pads are a nice feature. The silver/grey one doesn't have them tho. Are they considered missing? Or are they considered an ad-on to the red one? What ever the the case, like fork boots, black is the only appropriate colour for those. I'm glad Triumph stayed away from tan seats, brown grips and amber headlight lens(probably law). Triumph has always been a class act. Even during the Evel Knievel era.

Go for the red. Add a 3" Union Jack under the Triumph logo on the tank so the public doesn't confuse it for a Ducati. You can use the knee pads as a thighmaster during your rides.

These bikes are simply stunning. Triumph really knocked it out of the park, to use a sports analogy. Even their down market models are tastefully done. Ever since they started packaging the engine and transmission in one unit everything they touched has turned to gold. Oil in frame? Forgetaboutit.

Can anyone comments on the reliability of triumphs and/or thruxton? Also parts availability...

@Jayell had one for a few years, also I think @YeltoM Maybe one of them will chip in.

I have an '07 Scrambler (which you had zero interest in when I met you but that's ok because I only pretended to like your versatile system) and can honestly say it's on par with any mid eighties and beyond japscrap. These new Thurstons are too new for a comprehensive reliability analysis. Being made in Thailand should be of no concern.

I fell in love with the pictures of the bike . Nut when I sat on one it was too small for the riding I do .

Don`t get me wrong .If I could have several bike this one would make the cut .

Now that's only partially true, I did take note of your custom rear suspender mounts. And you really did take a shine to my versys. I think that was before Burgmans hit the scene.

I really love these bikes but the price tag is out of this world. For 20k dollars you could pay someone else to build you 4 nice cafe racers.

I was going to say, good looking bike, but 20K?? I guess bikes prices are out of the world ... dirt bikes are hard to get new under 10K OTD now ... crazy

Suzuki has some reasonable prices on their dirt bikes, I was going to pick one up this year but I didnt have any free time to go riding on it so I'm waiting till next year.

The UK motorcycle mag BIKE just did a road test on the Thruxton and ThruxtonR, they dont gush like american mags that everything is awesome and rosey, but they did really like the power delivery, style, quality build, details and rideablility in city and highway speeds so there you have it.

I own a truimph now, parts are no issue, I'm really happy with it, service is good but the dealers are backed up like every dealer everywhere.

The sport classic is a lovely bike, but they are increasing in value and getting scarce. I would own one as a second bike, but if I had the dosh I'd buy the triumph.
I rode one for all of 20 mins (regular thruxton 2016), its very nice.

You could compare a japanese bike but its like a fellow rolling up to you at the stoplight , your in your Lotus and he's in his Miata and he says , look mines a convertible to!

The fake carbs are weird, but I'll get over it.

To be fair Miata is chick car not good for dick swinging.

2015 thruxton here, love it despite sweating oil since new (common issue from front engine plugs, taking it in for warranty a second time next Friday). parts are not an issue. take a couple of weeks through dealer or a week through HERMY'S TRIUMPH ESTORE but $45 in shipping

I mean at $20k you could just go buy a SportClassic and save four grand. The SportClassic will go up in value while the Thruxton will fall.
