Transporting Bike in truck bed

GTAM: making strapping a bike down incredibly complicated since 2005

I live a few kms away from a Costco, across the street from a BestBuy. There is one road out, with an intersection. The other road is from a Home Depot. Across from that is a Cafe.
Every December, I get a nice seat by the window on Saturday, and watch the weekend warriors buy some thing big for Xmas and bring it home in their pickups. This is what they live for, this is why they bought the $40K truck and pay thousands in gas for, not for their cubicle job in insurance sales.

Something rolls off the bed of a truck _every hour_ and lands in the intersection, the best so far was a 70" TV from Costco. Wham. Ottomen, sofas, club chairs, you name it. Sometimes, it's downright dangerous when the guy hits the brakes and hundreds of pounds of 2X4s slide right over the roof. They end up ruining their man trucks by overloading, or shifting which dents and scratches.

Ratchet Straps? Who needs ratchet straps? Twine, rope, gravity and eyeballin'. The looks on their faces, and their buddy with the hot Timmies in the passenger seat is priceless.

If they don't lose it there, it's the 403 around the corner. And they try and return the items. LOL.

Ha ha ha.. CafeRay, don't forget about the guys with the one hand holding the mattress on the roof!

Put the front tire up against the front of the truck bed(in a chock if you have one), and tie the bike down in the straight up position.

Or on angle if you want the tail gate closed:

I highly recommend the ratchet straps with the hook lock. Once I hit a big bump and a hook broke loose and my bike fell on it's side.

The lock is a very good idea, esp if you don't like to compress the suspension very much.I have had a hook bounce out of a soft loop strap going over a bump in the road.Bike stayed in the front wheel chock just fine btw.
Another way to secure the hook is to just lay a bit of duct tape over it.
