Traffic on 401

Is so much more fun on the bike than in my cage!!!!!!!!
+1 Been doing it for the last 5 years, so far no cop issues (touch wood!). I just hate it when I have to take the cage!

Is scary as hell. After a weekend of lunacy in PA at 2X PSL the ride back on QEW was more dangerous. Il take the deer in twisty roads over GTA drivers.

Has the QEW gotten worse in the past week or 2? My commute is longer now....

you got that right...

It is not as much fun when you are stuck in stop and go traffic at 3pm and the temp is over 30C.

When I worked in TO I used to love riding the 401 on the way in because before 6:30am the 401 actually moved at well over the limit. I must say I don't miss the ride home in rush hour traffic.

It's a pretty safe bet to say that everyone on this forum would prefer twisty roads in PA over 401 rush hour. I think the OP is saying, that since most of us have to commute anyway (some on the 401), he has much more fun doing it on his bike than in his car. I agree. It's all in your approach. If you like to take avantage of a motorcycle's natural attributes, then go have fun playing in traffic (within reason). If you're more afraid of its vulnerabilities, then you're probably better off staying off the highway or hiding in your cage.

When it's bumper to bumper traffic, I would much rather sit in my car then be on and off the clutch every 2 seconds, dying in the heat and sucking in everyone's exhaust fumes around me, but to each their own. Until lane splitting becomes legal and safe in this province commuting on a bike pretty much sucks.

Yes sir

Yes the the bumper to bumper traffic in high temps and gear does suck. Specially when youre on a SS and it keeps over heating due to no movement. When i read the original post, i thought he meant its more fun on the bike because there are some extra open lanes that magically appear on the sides of the hwy :D. But riding completely legally(which we all do of course :D) is not that fun in traffic under the scorching sun.

I usually hit bumper to bumper once every couple weeks or so, then only for part of the ride. If it's bumper to bumper, I usually bale. Still easier on a bike than in a cage.

Relax, I was just pointing out how pathetic traffic is around GTA. Kind of sad that I feel safer engaging in reckless behaviour on back roads than following the law on 401.

Every day stuck in traffic on my bike beats doing it in my car any day.
I don't even have air conditioning in my car.
Once the traffic is gone. Zip. What speed do you want to do?
But even before I get to the traffic, I still have plenty of road to myself.

I find it worse but I obey the laws of no splitting (still speed, if I can). Standing on sweltering pavement in leather vs practically laying down in an air conditioned car... no question which is nicer. Now if traffic is actually moving (which pretty much never happens in Toronto) it's a different story. I usually just take city streets now. But then I got a speeding ticket.

Lane splitting would be nice if legalized however, I don't feel that the majority of Ontario drivers will quite comprehend the rule and drive with the general safety of motorcyclists in mind. One step at a time, as they are still figuring out what mirrors and blind spots are.

Didn't Toronto score 3rd worst traffic congestion among all world's cities last year? I believe we lost to Tokyo and LA.
Oh, well, watch us score No 1 this year! :D
