Traffic Light - Weight Sensors & Motorcycles

Did, and lost. It was proven that the lights were working.

Did you treat it as a 4 way stop right from the get-go?? Or did you actually wait there for a cycle/had past experiences with that intersection?

It is a well known issue.....

uhhh.....more info please? Did you just blow through the red light and tried to blame the traffic light?

No doubt that the traffic light was in working order. But the point is question is that the design or setup (sensitivity) of the magnetic loop that cannot be triggered by your motor vehicle (given that it is road legal).

Didn't blow through it. Apparently it was one controlled by time. The duration changed at different hours in the day. Whatever took lick, spent $3xx to the crown and life went on. Ticket is off my record now, and insurance didn't care.

Just tried the kickstand down on the metal part and it didn't work for me. Sat there for 2 min as soon as a pickup truck came over the sensor behind me, it triggered. This happened at 2 separate lights. I have found that if you park right on top of it, the odds are slightly better but not guaranteed.

sounds like you were just impatient and didn't want to wait. This thread has nothing to do with that.

Impatient and 2am didn't help either.

When I did a co-op at Bayer in Sarnia many moons ago. The lights at the main entrance weren't working. Ie. N-S direction it cycled, but the west to east stayed red. Called the cops to report. I guess on the way in a few car crossed the red and the cop being a dbag ticketed them. Then after directed traffic until the city came.

I usually hop off and press the walk button. The rare time I'll see someone walking in front of me and ask them to press it for me, this happened twice without me saying anything. Worse comes to worse I just turn right to the next set of lights, U-turn and then head back.

That just about sums it up.

I'd have to disagree. Every GTAM thread that has the answer on the first page must continue on to be 5 pages long!

I have called 311 regarding a left had that wont trigger to get out of my condo. They told me to proceed when it is safe to do so.

^ beat me to it.

There is a wire loop (square shaped) in the pavement that uses a magnetic field to see if there is a car there which triggers the lights.

You have to park your motorcycle on the line for it to have a chance to pick you up.

There is a rule (someone correct me if i'm wrong) that says if the traffic lights do a full cycle, and don't change it's malfunctioning, and you can treat the intersection like a four-way stop.
Don't quote me on that though.

Not in Ontario. And in any case, that logic doesn't work. If you pull up to a rural intersection that doesn't detect you, there is no "cycle". It is just going to sit there doing nothing forever (or until a heavier vehicle comes along and trips the sensor).

There are some states in the USA that have passed rules stating various versions of "if the traffic light does not operate in X amount of time then the rider is allowed to treat it as a stop sign and proceed when it is safe to do so", but Ontario has not done that.

I've tried the right turn and then a u-turn trick only to find the light has changed and I'm looking at another red light.

I bought a device called a green light trigger...didn't seem to make any difference...even after attaching it to the centrestand and lowering the stand to the tar snake. I either make a right turn/ u turn or wait a while and run the light when the road is clear. Depends on the location

Ahahaha, thats why you do it at intersections that you know are malfunctioning.
