Tractor trailer pursuit live in Toronto

Pretty hard to argue with results and the end result says they made the right choice.

As to him going wild and starting to ram SUVs full of children, my guess is keeping him calm is less likely to cause this than starting to shoot at him. They likely even knew who he was (or were talking to him on cell or CB) and knew his M.O. and considered this as part for the risk. Never-mind the fact that missing him with the bullets may actually shoot bystanders. Spike strips may cause him to ram other cars, police cars or drive through the barriers into other traffic. Crashes (or bullets) could cause injury to the cops or cause fuel leaks from the fuel tanks. The end results prove that escalating the situation was not the right choice. For the what if's, what if escalating the situation killed an SUV full of kids... or killed a cop with a family, or on his last day before retirement...?

BTW, stuff like this is not real life: :)

One last question that no one who responded here has answered for me.
Would you stick to your opinion if at 4 hours and 45 minutes into the chase he plowed into a suv with a family, and that family was yours?

That is all...

I think your expectations may be a little too high. You are making it seem that the "protect" is some sort of guarantee. I don't expect them to do anything to protect my family. If my family gets hit by the truck, because the truck driver decided that he wants to, then I would treat it as no different as having them being hit like that with no OPP an no persuit and treat it within that specific context. This is because the truck driver would have willingly made that choice and wasn't forced into it. My beef would be with that truck driver and the driver of my family's SUV for not avoiding it.

This would change if the OPP were to engage offensively with the truck driver. Cause in that case they would decrease his selection of choices and he may be forced (physically or mentally) into doing something that would hit my family SUV. My beef would then be with OPP.

That is my opinion and there is no ifs buts and then. ;)

why on Earth would all those people be standing in the path of the crash?!?!

it just as bad as the Netherlands Worst Driver crash where the host and entire film crew is standing in the run-off area
hhaahah idiots would be my guess

So then what is their job? To generate revenue from tickets?
It was my understanding that many of our rights, such as right to protect ourselves, have been taken away with the argument that the police will protect us and put away the bad guys. Its even on the side of their car, TO SERVE AND PROTECT...

If you want to know what their job is you can go and ask them. I am not in the position to tell you that. From my understanding you do have a right to protect yourself, but that is within "reasonable limits". Reasonable limits are defined and enforced by them. That print you refer to is only there to show you what their objective is. There is no guarantee that they will meet that objective or that they should try to meet that objective if they see a "considerable risk". Where considerable risk is defined by them. That is why I mentioned that I don't expect that from them. I think it's pointless to judge them based on what the media tells you. If you are concerned and want to know what protect really means please stop by a police station and have a chat. You have a right to know, because you are paying for their services. :)

so the largest vehicle in the opp fleet would be what a pickup truck, possibly a small truck for pulling an event trailer? How much do these things cost? Ever see what happens when a tractor trailer hits something? it gets mangled. until the guy starts showing himself to be a serious threat to other people let him run it out... shooting out the rad of a moving vehicle? are you serious? behind that rad is the engine which we've already determined is likely to ricochet a shot directly at it. the way the opp did it was minimal damage to everyone. trying to stop the truck likely would have caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. sure the procession was a bit much and there were probably a few thousand dollars worth of speeding tickets not given out because they were busy chasing the stolen truck, but i can live with that cost.

+1 I think more restraint needs to be shown to using a gun. Everyone breaks the law and that's a fact. We just break the ones which are convenient to us and rant about those who break laws which in return inconvenience us or appear threatening. Comparing which law should be punished by what leads to bias in many cases.

If you are in a situation and you don't know what's best to do or if you cannot predict the results from your actions it may be best to do nothing.

what if this happened? what if that happened? what if blah blah blah..

what if the OPP shooter pulls the trigger right when the vehicle he's firing from hits a pot hole (i checked, there are a few of those in this area)? his shot goes high and gets the driver in the head killing him instantly, the truck veers off the road, through a fence and takes out that very same school bus full of kids. i'm sure that would go over extremely well!

someone somewhere decided that this guy was not worth taking such extreme action for, so they let him ride it out. he's in a transport truck so keeping up with him isn't much of a problem. just monitor the situation closely and if it changes then they could take action, if not then just let him (slowly) run until he runs out of fuel.

I bet you the owner of the truck was pretty god damn happy to get his truck back without the rad shot full of holes, or the windshield blown out, with splatter and brain matter all over the place.

I find your post hilarious...you start off with saying what if this, what if that, blah blah blah then 2 seconds later your dreaming up your own what if scenarios lol

You can always count on gtam for excitement

Again... you watch too many movies... and believe everything you see/hear. Show me where on a OPP car does it say "TO SERVE AND PROTECT"

He's just doing what you are doing...

As for excitement... ya you are right there... we are all entertained by your inability to comprehend how real life works

Buddy's lucky there were no Brazilian Federal Police in the chase. Those badazzes use the PITT maneuver on planes.

OPP should have at least a few dozen of these. Could even get several different variants (ambulance, mortar, anti-tank, personnel carrier)

That's a great idea! :) The only problem is that if they used the Anti-Tank loadout, everyone on here would talk **** that they should have used the Mortar load out, or vise versa.
