track suit shopping

Is the suit too big? The seat and lower back portion looks especially loose to me
Looks like a good fit to me, the lower back portion will be fine once you're in riding position.
Have you tried to sit on one of their bikes to see if there are any restrictions?

Hey...I'm only comparing to video reviews i've seen and most, if not all, don't have that much folding at the back.

And i'm about the same size as you, just a bit shorter. 5'7 and currently walking around 170-175 ish. Top heavier compared to my legs, but If lean out, I should be walking around 160 ish. Doubt that'll make any difference.
It actually doesn't look that bad. As John says you will have a diaper ass no matter what. I squeeze into a Teknic 40, only complaint is it's little short in the torso. I only have a 30" inseam

Yep...sat on a bike yesterday and felt fine, albeit the knees were a bit loose. I'll try how the smaller size feels on the bike. Worse comes to worse, i'll fill out the hips with armoured shorts. Will probably add chest protection now thanks to this thread.

Thanks for the help!

Is it weird I'm comfortable both on and off the bike with my suit. Only the arms are a bit long but gauntlets cover them anyways.

Latorilla you got all your protection in there? If so then it's look a tad big. Especially if you can loose 10 lbs with no problems.

We have a box of the rigid chest protectors. RC had a new style in stock that is more flexible. I grabbed 1 for me to try out this year. Matt says he is going to try the new style this year as well.

Can't find the link for it on Dainese website. Here is the link to the rigid one.

Thats the one I switched to. My Knox was just a bit too thick and made my suit too tight. It's really comfortable but I haven't tested it.

I wear the Knox Cross Shorts and they are super comfortable. I was most concerned with hip area protection and they add more protection to my Dainese suite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p5o9f8ZH0U Tried the Dainese chest protector last year as well and liked it. Bought one for this season. Hardly noticed I was wearing it. Don't forget ear protection. Here's a great article on ear protection. I was surprised by the effect of wind noise. http://www.bikebandit.com/community/articles/motorcycle-ear-plugs

Ear plugs is something I am still trying to get used too. I have custom made ones and it does improve your concentration and you are able to hear better when you are racing but for some reason I find myself over revving the engine and losing time when i use them. I don't know why because I am able to hear the bike better, its weird and makes no sense

Backprotector only. And I wouldn't say easily, but if I get to about 10% BF, I should be around 160.

Will look into the Dainese Chest Protection. And I already ride with ear plugs everytime I go out.

Before you buy a suit do yourself a favour and go see Speedworx/Racer 5. Hands down the best suit I have ever tried on and really good bang for the buck. They are well tested and have many crashes on them with zero issues due to them being the ones they use in their school. Every year they make slight changes to improve them that come straight from customer feed back.

I would say i'm average build and had major problems trying to find just the right fit. The Speedworx/Racer5 was exactly what I was looking for. I'll be honest the hardest thing for me was to not be wearing a name brand, but on the track the ones that care what you wear or what you ride are normally the ones behind you anyways…lol

Here's a quick pic of the back of mine without my back protector on. As you can see even without the back protector and me slightly arched back taking the pic it's comfortably tight. I found a lot of the suits were also cut too tight around my neck so when I was in a tuck I would actually strangle myself. The Speedworx/Racer 5 has quite a generous neck cut.

Just fitted for a Dainese suit. With my size/weight/measurement, I always thought i'd be a size 50 and I did fit a 50 pretty well. But that's before bringing my back protector. I found that my BP adds about 5 cm to the chest area so the 50 is almost impossible to fit in the upper torso. The suit itself just pushes up the BP up my neck. So I tried fitting the 52 and the suit fits fine in the upper torso except that the legs area (especially knee area and butt) are loose.

With Bickle stating that I should avoid any loose areas on the suit in the event of a slide, what should I do? Try to shed as much fat to try and fit in the 50, or would the 52 suffice? It doesn't help that my inseam is really short which further compounds the disparity in the 52 sizing.

How do you guys workaround sizing especially with the BP?

This is how I felt about my MotoGP suit when it was new. I took it to Bickle to have it altered....he told me people would pay him to make their suits fit like mine already did. And he realized I felt like I was restricted and couldn`t breathe once the back prtector was in there, but said he wouldn`t take my $ until I raced for two weekends in it and returned to him. If I still had the same feeling after two weekends, he would agree to alter it.

He was 100% right. The new leather needed my sweat enzymes and some movement to stretch and form to my body in racing tuck, as well as molding to fit my back prtector on their just fine. It is now my suit of preference, and thank heavens I listened to John Bickle on that.

Are you suggesting I get the smaller size and wear it without the BP till I break it in properly? This is one route i'm thinking of going and just hope and pray the BP will eventually fit.

No he's not. And no, don't

How the hell you got that from what he said? Pretty sure he will not suggest not wearing your BP

Wear it around the garage.. to work it in.. when i am working on my bike.. i am mostly in a full or semi tucked in position.. that could help wear the suit in.. just a thought... i think i could clean the interior of my car as well.. same results... you dont have to expose yourself to risk just to wear the leather in... lots of odd jobs around the house/garage with same results

From his last statement maybe about his leather conforming eventually?

And let me clarify, I was not planning to ride without the back protector. I was planning to break in the suit around the house...going in full tuck position, on my bike etc. I would never ride without one...let's get that clear.

I think i will clean my car with suit on . Will also expose me to similar conditions as track ( heat/sweat/ blood pumping)....

Or just wear it to your first track day. It'll eventually form to you unless you got the wrong size.

Here's a plan,, oversize your back protector. Maybe add a smaller one under or over it. Get the suit on ,you can even dampen it,,just a bit,, don't soak it as you will have to wait until it dries to take it off. Wear the suit as long as you can or until it is dry. Take the extra back protector out and see how it feels.
The down fall to this is the suit will shrink back. But if you wear it enough it will be fine.
People that have suit, glove issues are usually more comfortable at the end of a weekend then at the start. The stuff has stretched. Most people caught between a suit size ie: need a 43 can get comfortable by wearing the suit. so put it on and over size yourself,,it won't get worse.

Ok thanks. Might have to be a two step process for me. I'm unable to put on the suit with my BP on so I might have to try and stretch the suit without it first.
