track suit shopping

Just fitted for a Dainese suit. With my size/weight/measurement, I always thought i'd be a size 50 and I did fit a 50 pretty well. But that's before bringing my back protector. I found that my BP adds about 5 cm to the chest area so the 50 is almost impossible to fit in the upper torso. The suit itself just pushes up the BP up my neck. So I tried fitting the 52 and the suit fits fine in the upper torso except that the legs area (especially knee area and butt) are loose.

With Bickle stating that I should avoid any loose areas on the suit in the event of a slide, what should I do? Try to shed as much fat to try and fit in the 50, or would the 52 suffice? It doesn't help that my inseam is really short which further compounds the disparity in the 52 sizing.

How do you guys workaround sizing especially with the BP?

When you buy off the rack,, that's the downfall.
It would be nice if they had 50-51-52. Sometimes you can take the legs in.
Some suits you can take it out between the knee and hip. But what does the suit cost and what would alterations cost and what is worth to have the suit "just not right"?
This is where the custom route comes in as everybody can not fit off the rack. Now keep in mind."Loose" is sometimes something you have to tolerate in certain places. There is no right or wrong answer,,, perfect world where money was no problem go custom. If you need to go off the rack,, then you buy what works. The 52 sounds like it might be what you have to settle for. You could look at a thinner back protector, if your's is thicker.

I think Custom would be out of the question. I would assume it would double in price if I go that route.

With regards to my BP, I don't think it's any thicker than most out there? I don't have much experience with standalone BP's so what is a typical thickness for one? With mine, the thickness is about 1.5 inches.

Throw on a set of padded shorts, that will fill out the legs.

Daisoman, nobody wants to wear a chest protector for some reason. Every top rider wears one but what do those guys know.

All 3 of us wear chest protectors. And we are all glad to since we have all crashed with a clipon to the chest in the past.

I too go with a back and chest protector. Barely tell it's their. Never found it bothered me or restricted any movement. And if it did I would adjust to it for the added safety.

I think they should be mandatory like back protectors.

Obviously there's a few guys here that understand the importance and added protection.

You can also wear the shorts or add padding into the legs. Shorts are easiest and some are very reasonable.
In the last ten years or so,, seems a lot of guys damaging their sternums. If you have ever hurt it ,, it's a tough injury.
Nickey Hayden was one of the first to wear and push them.
I'll say it again You can not have enough armour. If your armour is uncomfortable,, then you have the wrong armour.
"Soft" armour is the new hard armour!
Don't find out you should of had one on!

Also, you guys are probably better judges on this.

Is the suit too big? The seat and lower back portion looks especially loose to me

Hey...I'm only comparing to video reviews i've seen and most, if not all, don't have that much folding at the back.

And i'm about the same size as you, just a bit shorter. 5'7 and currently walking around 170-175 ish. Top heavier compared to my legs, but If lean out, I should be walking around 160 ish. Doubt that'll make any difference.

When you bend over the back part will go away,, if you get rid of the excess and then climb on your bike,, you will get a wedgey that will hurt!
Go sit on a bike,,, You can not have a suit that fits on and off the bike. Any good fitting suit has a baggy bum when you stand up.

You are fitting off the rack,, option A go down a size, Option B live with it,option C try another make. But sit on a bike.
