Touring Routes

7up, that 144 is lots of fun. As I was leaving Sudbury last summer, I actually rode side by side with a freight train for a good minute or two...the second half is not as fun as the first, and this is some remote territories, but again - there's lots of tracks into the bush! It's a bit sandy, but still fun.

Hondauhmatic - those parks are so beautiful. I know the states have some better roads in a few places, but I've spent six months running around their country on one long road trip, and...well, it's just a very busy country. Lots of people, lots of stores, lots of traffic. These little provincial parks are like a personal getaway, in some cases for $12 a night! You can't beat that...

Let me know if it works!

We recently published the story from Oliver Solaro, who did 8000km to Hudson's Bay on ice roads this past winter! http://northernontario.travel/motor...nor-brokentooth-motorcycle-winter-fort-severn

Kinda mind blowing. Wonder what the 129 is like in the dead of winter!!!

Sorry, unable to open the dropbox link. I can PM you my email address if that is easier?

I'm off betw. June 11th - 14th and thinking about it.

Is there a way to get from Killarney to HWY6? I twould be nice to spend the night in Killarney then head west, without backtracking and going through Sudbury.

Nope 1 road in , 1 road out.

Looks like you'll be going before me. I off the last week of June, if it's a go.

The weather sucked so spent some time working on things around the house - wife was happy.

Just got back from this trip. 129 is good, especially the southern part (smooth) but overall it's pretty quiet all the way up to Chapleau.

So is there no gravel on 129??

I coulda sworn that I read somewhere that there was like 50kms or so of gravel roads on the south end.

Thanks for the Oliver Solaro story, I'm in for 129 in winter.

Nope, no gravel all the way up to Chapleau, but do look out for moose as a couple of them crossed the road when I went through there.

Nice. Did you get any pics? Glad to see someone else enjoy it!

Sure do. This is on 129 heading to Chapleau.2.jpg

A glimpse of lake Superior, southbound on 17 to Sault Ste Marie. 1.jpg

The wife and I did this trip two weeks ago. It was great time, but the damn black flies were everywhere and the dragon files hurt like hell :).
We cut through to Espanola via the ferry and boot it to Iron Bridge and up to Chaplau and across to Wawa.

For some reason I liked heading south on the 129 just a bit more than heading north (the river to the right seems nicer). Didn't run into any wildlife (thank God I guess) and all in all a soul refreshing trip.

Thanks for answering SVs.

I'm heading up to Wawa next weekend. I had thought that 129 was part gravel so was going to avoid that part but after what you folks are saying I think I need to incorporate that into my ride.

Question is do I go to Wawa through 129 first and back around on 17 or vice versa???

Finally had a chance to do this route this past weekend. Northerntouring's write up on his website is great. The scenery is fantastic though I didn't really find any part of 129 to be technical. Mostly long sweepers and a very remote feeling which I enjoyed.

On 129 there is little opportunity for food. Aside from the hotdog cart at the first trading post the restaurant at Aubrey Falls is often closed (so the locals tell me) and have little to offer on their menu. They were out of some ingredients when we were there which I can't really blame them for since very little traffic actually passes by. Chapleau is a hole but makes a nice resting stop enroute to Wawa.

I personally enjoyed 129 more than 17. Yes, 17 does have some great vista's but there's too much transport truck traffic.

We did see a moose, two bears, and a deer on this trip.

17 vistas
