stoopid me, looking closer at the diagram in the link, I see what's to be jumped. all positives to + supply, and all negatives to ground. does it matter which ground I jump (battery or relay)? or just bridge all negatives to each other? thanks

This is correct.

Relay should go to neg on the battery and the bridge goes to neg on battery so the bridge can also just neg to relay.

I ended up getting a fuse block from princess auto and bringing everything back to a common ground. Put a relay on the power to the block.
