Well, the RION one can do about 125km/h+ and up to 80km range.

125 km/h and up to 80 km range? So maybe 10 minutes or 20 km at full speed (assuming the motor and controller can suffer sustained full power)?Well, the RION one can do about 125km/h+ and up to 80km range.

That's awfully fast for something that can't brake well. Yes it has disc brakes but they look like small bicycle discs. So you have a lot more weight at a lot higher speed and just hope for the best. I don't even know if they would survive a single panic stop.

If you're bonkers enough to ride one of those things at wide open throttle for 10 minutes in city traffic at 125km/h, I give you kudos for having not only brass balls, but balls of unobtanium.
I was aiming for the HOV lane on the Gardiner. If you're going to break the laws you might as well get home faster.

That could actually open up a grey area. If you are on a pedelec that meets the definition of an ebike and break the ebike speed limit, they will have a very hard time making the ticket stick. The ebike is not supposed to power you above 32 km/h but if your legs plausibly could (easily possible on a pedelec) I don't see how the cop could win in court.
He didn't say for how long. Quite a few cyclists can get over 1000 watts but for a few seconds and then they need a break. Nobody can keep it up for minutes.Sorry. I call B*llshit.

You can also cheat for a very short interval where you get your legs going at a ridiculous cadence and then head up a steep hill. Some of the apparent power is the energy of your spinning legs as they slow down. It is real power to the wheel but you were able to build it up over time into your legs instead of instantaneous production.

I have one of these scooters. Bought it for fun from Costco last year. Pretty sure they are around to stay from what I’ve seen on my travels in different countries. Maybe some more regulations on the way but they are useful.
One of the reasons I got mine was for city exploring after parking the car but I actually used it for a limited commute to the office when my office was actually open.
Of course if you’re a ********* and use it to terrorize pedestrians then I can totally see why they would want to ban them.

I've always found it odd that not everything that you can use on the road requires a license or any kind of training.
Considering that many roads still offer little or no clear paths for people on bike, scooters, E-bike, etc.
I cringe everytime I'm on a back road with wash out on both sides and I see someone wobbling along the side of the road on their bike, scooter, whatever..
