Top 5 Motorcycle Safety Tips that can save your life

re: follow too close
I rode up behind a parcel truck at the red light. I was maybe 10 feet off his back bumper. Unless he has a back up camera I was in his blind spot. I see the reversing lights come on. I squeaked out a little squak. He came back about 5 feet then drove forward in a different vector. Maybe next time I will not do that.

here's another tip: don't cruise the left lane

Left lane is statistically safest lane but not for noobs. You have to be willing to do 150 indicated to stay in traffic position.

Right lane most dangerous.

Middle lane requires some finesse....find a driver going the speed you want where you can see ahead of him and ride a blocking position keeping other cars out but far enough back - you need to be hyper aware tho.

If you are in the middle lane, ride on the side where there are more cars that need to see you. Typically this would mean the right tire track, as you should in theory be passing vehicles in the slow lane. If for some reason the slow lane doesn't have many cars but the passing lane does, then switch to the left tire track. Essentially you want to be visible to what you are approaching from behind (and may veer into your lane) more than anything else...hence why it is called 'blocking' position.
Agreed100%. I want to block the traffic, so I ride on the side of the traffic. I don't often stay in the center lane for long.

God! Another you tube video

I choose the lane closest to the softest landing. I don't care if it's the left or the right, but that's often the outside lane with no guardrail preventing me from going for the grass median if **** goes south with a multi car pile up and I'm going to part of the steel sammich. (never happened yet). Always have an out plan.

I agree with this mindset. Always make sure you have an "out" card is not only good as a way out, in the back of your head mentally you always know there is that last ditch resort you can go to if all hell breaks loose. Funny just came back from a quick ride and almost got hit by someone not checking their blind spot. My motorcycle can be heard 1 km away I ******* don't understand, meh.

I'm not trying to excuse someone not checking their blind spot but there is a very good chance they didn't hear you. Honestly, when I'm in my cage, I rarely if ever hear motorcycles until they are right beside me or ahead. This gets worse with speed. Even happens with the loudest ADV and Harleys. The whole 'louder exhaust makes them aware of me' thing might work in a 40 zone.
