Hi all

I am thinking of trying to replace my rear tire myslf. I did a bit of research and it looks like what I need is:

  • 3 tire irons
  • a bead breaker
  • rim protectors
  • the tire itself

Where would I go to buy these tools? Will something like Kahuna have them?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have that kind of skill :) I would scratch the hell out of the rims, puncture the tube, and poke myself with a crowbar for good measure :)

3 of these:

shows 2, but 4 of these are better (get the nylon ones rather than plastic):

1 of these:

1) Spray bottle with Windex, or soapy water.
1) Bead breaker of your choice.
1) Air compressor to 're-bead' / fill up the new tire.
1) Old tire to use as a 'workbench'......or anything that won't mark / scratch your rim. (5 gallon pail with garden hose around the top rim is popular)

1a) Lots of patience.
1b) A 3rd hand....... if you can find one comes in handy and gets the job done quite a bit faster.

If you do the front tire some day, a static balancer is nice to have hanging around - check ebay.

Princess Auto sells tire irons, but they make the job 100X more difficult than the Motion-Pro brand.

I got my tire levers at Royal Distributing
Used a big C-Clamp as a bead breaker
Rim protected using a cut up plastic jug

Note: He makes it look really easy, it's not quite that easy with a new tire.
