Tools for the Tourer

meh, 850km in these populated areas is nothing to fret over.

did learn a VERY valuable lesson on a 6000km trip last week.

4 min epoxy, the one that you mush together like playdo, can be jammed in both sides of a rad to fix a leak.

we were 200km from any major town, this tiny little 200 person town with a very small and scary auto shop...he just jammed that epoxy in this guys rad like no ones business...charged 75 for the labour and inconvenience and it was fixed and held up NP for the rest of the trip!

+1000 for 4 min epoxy, fits in your trunk np...tiny tube. fixes anything

+1 to murdochville QC

I hauled a tube of quick steel epoxy and some of the rad stop leak across the translab and Newfoundland last year.

Murdochville QC has a little boulangerie that serves an awesome smoked meat and pouting.

It also features 150 kilometres of gravel that Garmin thought would be fun.

Regarding that bead rider, I busted my butt on the stock seat of my DR650E. It's great for short runs on the island and dirt rides, but I was taking advil on day three.

And now you know why I always ride with my clear visor stuffed into an old sock.

I'm glad you had fun.

Not very well advertised but many textile riding jackets have two 4" zippers at waist level located approx. where your kidneys are. Open either one of them and slid your extra visor in. The visor more or less settles in to the contour of your waist and is not noticeable when riding.

Don't sweat it. So far on three different week long trips into the states (usually about ~3000kms each) on a 86 goldwing the only tool I needed was the ignition key. The standard tool kit includes a air pressure gage. That's the only thing I used.

When I took my 06 FZ6 up to New Liskeard I didn't check the tire and had to have it replaced up north. I took the rear wheel off in the parking lot with just the standard tool kit.
