Too much oil!

Not dumb at all? And actually easier to get it back to the proper level without getting dirty. This is how you would drain a supercharger of it's oil without a drain plug.

This man knows the "pains" of those superchargers (thankfully, mine has a drain plug).

Not as "dumb" as an idea if you've tinkered with things outside of the motorcycle world...never judge, folks.

I took off the filler cap and tipped the bike over when I did it. The windex sprayer idea would have saved me some trouble......Wish I had thought of that.

dont forget your crush washer after you drain it!!

haha, done that a few times. what a mess..

had a similar post a while back, regarding fill levels...was told by a member "just tilt the bike over a little further till the level hits the mark"
LOL

Sorry if everyone knows this, but I just learned it over the weekend (not from experience, but listening to a friend).

When filling the oil after a change, stand the bike up. Have a friend hold it or use a chock. On the stand, the bike will lean (to a side or forward) which will throw off the readings. When you stand it up, it may be overfilled. Also, if the oil is over filled, then it can come out via the air intake.

Two things I didn't know and thought I would pass along.

And here is my experience with the GSXR 1000 (it wasn't like that with my previous bike!):

When I change the oil, the manual says to put 3000ml if changing just the oil, or 3300ml if changing oil and filter. So, if I follow what the manual says and put the exact recommended amount of oil, the level is above the F mark on cold engine. That is, if I run the engine, then let it cool down for an hour or more, the level seems way above the Maximum level.

However, the owner's manual specifically defines the procedure for taking a measurement, which is:

1) start engine and let run for a few minutes.
2) stop engine and let it cool down 2-3 minutes.
3) take measurement.

Following this exact procedure, the level is spot-on perfect. Taking measurement at any other time---level is way off.

Dollar store sells turkey basters for....well.... a buck.
I did this once and yes it works and is very easy.

The cheap one at crappy tire doesn't seal at all and wont pickup anything, was a little peeved when i learned that doing fork oil this spring

You dont understand the intent of the manual. First of all you can only add by volume if you measure by volume when removing, manuals numbers will be close but the sight glass is a way more accurate measurement. Secondly that 2-3 minutes stuff is 100% wrong, the sight glass should be read with all the oil drained down. If you're that overfilled i'm amazed you can even get the bike in gear.
