To hump or not to hump, that is the question

One is perforated and one is not which means to me that they would be for different purposes. Perforated leather is generally pretty comfortable in the summer while non-perforated will be very warm. But once it cools down the perforated might be too cool.

If the hump doesn't bother you and you ride mostly in summer, like most people, I'd get the perforated one. However, black will also be hotter and less visible. I'd look for something perforated, in a lighter colour, without a hump (I hate the humps).

Considering I am mulling over getting a new jacket this year or next, which of the following two would everyone recommend?

Alpinestars Celer (with hump):

Alpinestars Jaws (without):

Note there are also video reviews on both links.

Personally I will never purchase another Alpinestars product that is lower then their GP line. The quality just is not there. See this thread which I made last year to show you what i'm talking about. Would hate to see what would happen in a crash.

Based on one review (can't remember if Revzilla or STG) the Celer sits above the GP-R and below the Atem, so it 'should' be a quality jacket. The Jaws is below that, so maybe it is one to watch out for. I am surprised by all those issues with your Carver -- I do wonder if they just had quality issues on that one, as I thought A* was relatively 'higher end' compared to say Icon, Teknic, and Joe Rocket.

As for perf vs non -- Whatever I get would definitely be perforated, as I always run hot and really don't mind the cold. The Celer isn't offered in perf but has big vents which are supposed to flow near as much air, hence why I posted those two vs the Celer and the non-perf Jaws.

Either way boots still come before a new jacket, and I was thinking Supertech R but I don't like all the negative reviews that pop up about A* from time to time (although almost all praise the Supertechs, and I would have just bought Dainese TRQs/Torques but they don't fit my feet).

I wouldn't group Teknic in with Joe Rocket or Icon. Their product although relatively inexpensive has a ton of higher end suit benefits such as the actual Knox brand CE padding and the Humps engineered to reduce whiplash like what has been described in this thread. Key areas are also reinforced with kevlar between the layers and stretch panels.

I myself was a huge brand whore I will fully admit. Then when I had the issues with the Alpinestars stuff it forced me to look at other brands such as Teknic. In the end it all comes down to fit. Purchase the one that fits you the best.

I've had three different Teknic suits, currently I have the pro level xcelerator. I have crashed 10 plus times in those suits, maybe 8 times in lower end models, and they (mostly) saved me every time. I HIGHLY recommend Teknic.

At 300kph the hump helps! Without it, it feels like someone grabbed the back lip of your helmet and is trying to pull it over your head! Not fun when you can't see at 300kph, so I always hump it.

This happens to me regardless when that giant vent on the RSR2 catches the wind. Maybe it's because my bike is more upright so the hump is at the wrong angle.
