Dragons den woman feeling the pain as well. Both founders of the company have now been CEO and have stepped down. Not a good look for 2 billion dollar company.

Reminds me of a meeting with a previous employer. All department heads, GMs and a few inventory people. GM yelling at everyone in the room “you don’t make us money, you cost us money. If your job title doesn’t say Work Centre Operator I want to see cost savings ideas every quarter or find a new job”.
Yikkies that's a bit toxic, with a simplistic view of productivity and under estimating employee value. Hope they included themselves in the not making money category.

He’s the boss, he pays you to come up with cost savings.
I recall one time I was in the GMs office trying to explain a situation with the software and I could tell him and my boss weren’t understanding what I was trying to say. So I said “here can I login on your PC and I’ll show you.” They both looked at me like I grew a 2nd head. GM doesn’t have the software installed, he would never have the time. That’s what he pays me for

You're not the only one. My senior manager also asked me how to look something up as he's never done it (over a year into the job), and I looked at him...'oh thank Christ you don't know...cause I don't either as it's not my typical requirement'.

A little gruff in the delivery, but that's a fundamental goal of every cost center manager -- if they needed reminding, they have become complacent.
Increased productivity is how cost centers contribute to the bottom line.
