Tire changing: How much is too much?

some people use airsoft pellets in cars to balance, not sure how that would work in biikes though.

i tried it in my field car. it was awful.

I don't understand what all your fuss is about. He doesn't want that business from you. There are shops here that would simply tell you to take a hike if you showed up with your own tires. Think the entire situation through from his point of view.

Really? Now that's customer service! (suppost to have bagsey's comment quoted)

30$ or so is a reasonable price, I've tried doing my own mx tires and I'll emphasize they try. Never again and especially with powdercoated rims I wouldn't try it, not worth the hassel to me but some guys are good at it.

The guy I use will put the tires on for free providing I buy the tires there and bring in just the rims. (Tires prices are quite good)

Then I pay cash and avoid the tax.

Yes I know avoiding the tax eventually screws us all but when I watch the way gov wastes the money I don't feel bad about stiffing them....

Head over to youtube and look up motorcycle tire change and static balancing, there's some very good vids on there that show you everything step by step.

Nope.
SCMC in St catharines.
Honestly I think he's going under. There's never anyone there.

I would have recommended him but I guess he's raised prices since last year if he quoted you $100 a tire, I had a set put on last spring for $70ish (rims off the bike). I know a few on BDR have had issues with him, I've only been in there for a chain swap and tires twice IIRC and never had problems.

If your in Niagara you could always look into getting one of the Habor frieght tire changing stations when it's on sale at get it shipped to www.usaddressinc.com just over the border.

Do it yourself then! From Ebay, its 120$+shipping to have a tire balancing, then you can build your own tire mount....and to remove the tire, just cut it down anyway you won't use it anymore. So for 200$ (or 3 tires changes) you have all your tools! It worth it specialy if you do around 4000km's/month...on a vfr that mean a tire change every 2 months or so....

If your riding a lot of miles in a year having the tools to do your own frequent tire changes comes in very handy... For about $300 you can set youself up with some manual equipment that will change motorcycle tires, it will take some pratice to learn how not to scratch the rims. lol
Balancing is ez with a static balancer... can be homemade and still work fine like reciprocity has stated.

Made my own balancer.
Or you can buy one of these: http://marcparnes.com/

That's really neat and simple!
Knowing that I am going to be riding a lot, it may after all be worth for me to do it myself.
I wouldn't be surprised if I tear through a rear tire every season. And no I've never done burnouts.

Wanna trade tire budgets?

Trust me he is not installing them for free, its all built into the price of the tires. Lets see if he will install them for free and price match also!
