Anyone every been there before?

Did you take a private or group tour at all? Two operators we are checking out are TibetVista and TibetGuides.

My wife and I are planning to go for 2-3 weeks. Not riding bikes but spending about 10-14 days in Tibet then heading south overland through Nepal to fly out of New Delhi.

Suggestions are welcome!

I don’t but my buddy got amoebic dysentery somewhere out that way I think and he said it was an “interesting” experience. Something about not wandering out of sight lines of bathrooms.

Nice!!!

Everest Base Camp and then Nepal->Tibet is on the TDL, maybe in a few years.

Not sure if G Adventures is out that way but i've used them in S.America a few times and have nothing bad to say.

Looking forward to info/planning here!

Looks like we are going to go with Tibetan guide | Tailor-made tours around Tibet
Apparently when you are getting your Chinese visa from here, you are not supoosed to say you are going into Tibet. Seems kinda similar to when we traveled between Syria and Israel.

Sounds interesting. We're planning on visiting Mongolia next summer after my g/f finishes her ESL teaching gig in China.
I'm wondering if 10+ days in Tibet is too much? We figured 4-5 days in Mongolia is enough to see what needs to be seen. It's a $600.00 flight from Beijing.

We are planning on taking a train from Beijing to Lhasa. It's 41 hours and I think it will be awesome.

That's the train we have to take from Nepal to New Delhi. Imagine if you got sick and had the sh!ts on that? lol

How do you decide which side of the train to hang off? Does the roof cost extra?

Looks an awesome adventure, especially with that nice room! Safe travels.

There are too many places that should be seen and all they are so difficult to get to...

About 10 years ago I decided to at least try to do one nice trip each year, sometimes just one country, sometimes many countries on each trip. It's pretty amazing how much you can see if you can and do commit to doing so. Backpacking has allowed us to see many places for pretty cheap and I much prefer it to staying in hotels where possible.
We usually try to go somewhere very different from the last few years of trips, instead of going to the same country year after year.

One thing I'm not really a fan of is applying for visa's and having to give your passport to the office and waiting for them to mail it back. Haven't had an issue with it yet, but sure feels dodgy.

don't forget your travel shots. and have your secret wallet inside your clothing. also, take some of those disposable surgical mask ( get real dusty and you don't what's in the dust!)

all good points. just got our shots, have the money belts, and will have some masks for just in case. Delhi air pollution is pretty high.

Nice road, I think I see a couple of short-cuts.
Where the heck did they put all their trees?
