Ok I herd something like that happened I’m not looking for any money out this just a good time with a bunch people who ride bike and put on show fir everyone the volunteer part is gonna be hard like you said I find nowadays everyone wants but no one helps I have old tape of the thunder run when it was big right up till it ended I’m gonna bring them to the town and show them see them happens

Sorry guys I don’t think the rally will be coming back there’s always something that the town can’t meet should just get a bunch of bikes together for a weekend there’s a great camp ground here to tent trailers just need cloths and food it’s on the water nice beach and show the town what it’s missing

Disappointing but not at all surprising. Restarting it at full scale would be a huge task and highly likely to fail. Your new plan of starting small and informal has a better chance of success.

..
Such events rely on a lot of volunteer effort - which tends to disappear when other people involved want to make money out of an event.

So true. For decades I worked in youth sports, nobody but refs were paid. When I returned to Canada in 2000, things were changing. My local youth soccer club was funding international boondoggles for execs, the local lacrosse league became a ‘business’. A few years later we had paid youth hockey coaches, and some volunteers taking remuneration.

The quality of leadership declined, and the cost to parents has in some cases gone crazy.

Sad that people not expect to be paid for things that have been done by volunteers, sad that do many excellent volunteers have backed away as profiteers move in.

The stupid police checks have also killed volunteering in Ontario when you make it difficult no one will bother. Especially when it has shown to be completely ineffective as there is no police record unless they have been convicted. Let the organization run a drivers license and call it done the current process sucks

Agreed. I remember when they first came out, I had to review a portion of them for our club (a daunting task as there were over 500 volunteers).

Lots of great people dropped out because they didn’t want to disclose a dui, pot, or some dumbass conviction they picked up before becoming a responsible parent

I like the idea if it screened for violent or sex crimes only.

The problem is all the major sex crimes etc are committed by people with no record so it isn't doing anything. Repeat offenders are not usually even trying to get in.

Similarly, most of the soccer moms that get busted stealing hundreds of thousands don't have priors. A check of credit score makes more sense for someone handling money. If they can deal with their own who would trust them with money from parents?

Different times. I got pulled over on my brand new rz500, because the Popo wanted to see it. Then asked me to let her rip. Now impound etc.
