Throttle locks / cramp busters

I had a throttle lock it ended up in the garbage, they might be ok on a straight flat road but are a pain on hills I would always have to readjust for speed.I went back to the cramp buster style before I got a bike with cruise control.

I'm very leery of any kind of throttle lock, and let's be honest that's what a lot of them are.
I have a cramp buster. It's good, but be careful though sometimes it can get in the way at slow speeds and give you an unexpected throttle blip.
Why? I don't use it when riding in a sporting manner but for covering distance I find them invaluable. Real cruise would be better for a lot of reasons but obviously not feasible to retrofit on most bikes.

The problem with friction-based throttle locks is that they don't adjust the speed to account for gradient, wind resistance or any kind of drag on the bike. You're still going to have to add more throttle when going uphill or into the wind and vice versa descending downhill. I've installed both a Kaoko and Throttlemeister on my previous bikes - never used them. The Kaoko eventually rusted in the open position because it was never engaged. I find throttle rockers to be more useful.

Just my opinion, YMMV, bla bla black sheep...

Back when the throttle lock style of cruise were popular there always was "that guy" that thought that it was hilarious to lock them at WFO on every unattended parked bike that they could.
The upside on it though back in the day one could take remedial action on the idiot usually without catching a court case.

No expectation of throttle locks working in hills...it's the break from the throttle even if it's a for a few min to shake out your hand and let your arm dangle that is useful. Especially if you have a damaged rotator cuff.
The new cramp buster/palm throttle worked the charm today tho set perhaps a bit too high so will adjust tho mostly got used to it on the way home ( 200 km twisty loop along the Pacific ). Used the Go Cruise maybe for 5 min the whole ride.
I also find it useful in restricted speed zones...set and forget. With speed cameras frequent here ....setting the throttle lock is useful ....just wish mine held ....the silcone tape should fix that next week.

Because it's just a lock. If you get into a jam it doesn't know enough to shut off. Just my opinion.

The ones I have used, it is easy enough to overpower the lock in either direction. If you manage to come completely off the bike with the lock on, I agree, that is really bad as you have just launched an unguided missile.

I love me some throttlelock.
It's a wrist saver on the long straight stretches.

One day I'm going to own a bike with cruise control and laugh at my former self.
it maintains speed regardless of inclines, lets you down/upshift as needed, even returns you to set speed if you have to overtake, all by itself
its the first thing I look at now when browsing.

BMW started putting it on their bikes back in 2005, far as im concerned, every bike post 2020+ and over 10k should come standard with it.
Or i just assume the manufacturer aint taking the model seriously

I would suggest if you gonna get the crampbuster style don't keep it on your daily ride/commute where you moving through traffic with varying speeds. You could inadvertently accelerate or not be able to roll off if your wrist makes contact. Not something you want in a turn or when the car ahead brakes suddenly. The positioning of the crampbuster on the hand grip is important for safety and comfort. Too high compromises safety and too low is uncomfortable on the wrist.
I got mine from aliexpress for cheap and it does work on the R6 oem grip but I only used it a few times. Again, I wouldn't recommend it for city (GTA) riding/commuting.

I adjust the position of the rocker many times during a ride. It is in a substantially different position for in town vs highway vs spirited riding. If I left it in one position, it can make throttle control more awkward/twitchy.
