Throttle locks / cramp busters

I occasionally get cramps in my throttle hand. Someone recommended the Throttlemeister. Great reviews, a little pricey, and ultimately struck me as a bit dangerous. I also looked at cheap solutions like the CrampBuster. I actually ordered a CrampBuster on eBay to give it a try - and haven't received it yet. Having given it some more thought, I'm not sure how safe any of these solutions are. Thoughts?

Well a palm throttle is a start. No brainer.

The BrakeAway is good but expensive and trickyu to install and adjust.

I settled on the Kaoka - works a charm, well made - good looking - looks OEM

Never had a safety issue - all the ones Ive used let you roll the throttle off easily - just kills fighting the return spring

Proton is what you're looking for

Throttlemeister is good. Pricey but you're getting well made stuff. They act as bar end weights too and reduce vibrations. Not really any safety issues, you can always overide the lock.

my friend swears by this. every time we are on a long ride, I see him stretching his right arm... makes me jealous

I have a 'cramp buster' - And they are definetly worth it for any kind of long trip.. and they are under 15 bucks.

I have a cramp buster too....I use that most often, throttlemeister gets used if I'm on an open highway with free flowing traffic or sometimes if I need to adjust my right mirror on the go and I don't want the revs to drop.

Throttle rocker @ z1 or Parker Bros. $10

Best. Thing. Ever.

OK... The CrampBuster arrived in mail today. Vast improvement. I was concerned it might bring on the throttle while braking, but it doesn't. It actually causes me to leave a little throttle on while up shifting which believe it or not, further smoothed out my shifts. Its also just easier to roll on the throttle from a stop. A great solution for 10 dollars. I'll check out some of these other options as well for a hands-free solution. Thanks for the replies...

Vista Cruise all the way. Not expensive, universal fit, works well, simple.

I got a Throttle rocker for under $15 off ebay including shipping to my doorstep.

Used to use a Throttle Rocker, definitely takes the strain off your wrist but still not ideal for those super long highway rides. I've been using a Throttlemeister for the last sixty thousand km's or so and swear by it, beautifully engineered and works great. Very safe as you can overpower it without issue. Pricey but if I remember right you can get different threaded inserts if you ever switch bikes.

The Throttle Pro linked above is actually the first I've heard of it, looks like it should work, and do the same thing as a Throttlemeister

revived thread - I've been riding for 55 years+ and between that and my computer work got a bad case of carpal tunnel.
Got my left hand fixed but not doing the right.
If your hands go numb or get tingly it's possible you are developing it and a throttle lock plus palm throttle/cramp buster to keep your wrists straight and less pressure gripping the bars can avoid some of the repetitive strain that leads to carpal tunnel issue. 5.8 on a scale of 6 for both my hands.
It's a simple test they do for it.
In office surgery for the fix ...a couple weeks to resume riding but maybe a year for a complete heal. YRMV

Kept breaking my cramp busters with the velcro straps and at $30 each it's annoying and I need them.
They slip if not tight enough and break when you try to tighten - I have on both sides. The ones with no velcro are useless.

Took a chance on these - 4 for $30 shipped and returnable.

even cheaper per in Canada GreyGhost says he's been using them too.
I've always used the rubber ones like the ones you just got. No issues with them. Easy to adjust while riding and haven't had one fail in use.

Well off the top they are simple to put on and sure do not slip at all.

They are very soft and pliable and stretch easiy and some sort of grip surface on the inside.
( lower image right side) and it digs right into the grip.

$8 each ....I can do with one but two is better for support.
The new ones are soft enough even without gloves on.......they simply don't move
Having two on also guards against losing one.

I'll leave the cramp buster on the the other side for now but annoyingly it slips as well...I could switch sides but seems too often to break when I try to move it.

for those that cannot get the silcon rubber rings on some of the throttle locks on due to Bark Busters etc ....a rider on another forum recommended this.

I've used the rubber type on a dirt bike with success, because they don't break if you drop the bike. They only start slipping if dirt or dust gets under them.

To solve the slipping with the plastic Throttle Rocker type I've used a stainless screw-type hose clamp directly on the grip, then put the Throttle Rocker on top of the clamp and wired them together. This removes the ability to adjust the rocker on the fly, but it never slips.

I use these. $10 bucks on Amazon, they work like a charm.

Press up with your thumb to lock, twist back, and you're off the throttle. They can be set light enough that the throttle will slowly return itself. I set mine like this, it gives you relief to relax from holding the throttle but doesn't keep it pinned in place.

I also have one of these, used to sell them at Cycleworkd for about $5. They are nonadjustable, and you use your index finger to set them on. IMHO they work better than the thumb screw type. I haven't seen these for a while.

Had one that came on a used bike. At one point the release mechanism fell apart on the highway, and I had to manually turn the throttle off. Another bike had something similar to the cramp buster, but it takes up too much room on the grip. New bike has cruise control.

I'm very leery of any kind of throttle lock, and let's be honest that's what a lot of them are.
I have a cramp buster. It's good, but be careful though sometimes it can get in the way at slow speeds and give you an unexpected throttle blip.
