Thoughts on the Subaru XV Crosstrek?

I've read reports that the Mazda CX-5 is getting the larger more powerful 2.5L Skyactiv engine and possibly a diesel engine option for 2014 so it might be worth waiting for if you can.

I just wish there was more than speculation for these reports of diesels coming here. The only 'affordable' new diesel that I know of that is certainly coming here is the Chevy Cruze, but I am not interested in that at all.

I also shy away from VW now after owning a couple of them -- albeit much older classes, they were both a headache to own as every day turned up something else to fix.

As much as I love diesels, as evident by my username and having owned a diesel motorcycle at one time, I am not sure if I am able to wait long enough for speculation to turn in to reality 5 years from now just to find out the diesel option will be $5k more expensive than the most expensive non diesel option.

I am not yet completely sold on the Subaru... I haven't yet been out to test drive one. I wish I could rent one for a weekend to test it properly. I may also wait until spring to buy and just put one more winter on my clunker.

Agreed on the Cruze diesel, not sure why anybody would want one of those.

Guess your best non German diesel choice afterall, coming soon......
