Thoughts and feed back on a 2000 Honda RC 51

You can always buy it and strore it in my Garage Gary..... i am still on the fence on what bike i want...i kick myself in the *** for selling the R6 last year....

Thanks for the garage offer, but if I throw my fridge out, I'm gold.
R6's are a dime a dozen - you can replace that load by 6pm today, no probs.
A nearly new RC51 on the other hand...............need I say more?
(you should, and will kick yourself twice as hard for passing up this bike)

wanna buy a Busa, cheap?
Old man wants a new one.

Its heavy to turn in, but it makes up for it with decent stability. You learn to ride it for what it is. You could jack up the rear or lower the front a bit to aid this. You'll also be well advised to have a shop check out the forks, maybe change out the fluids and springs to freshen it up etc. Again its a 12 year old bike and who knows if/when that stuff was looked at previously.

Have you ridden one? They sure don't feel big *** and fat while riding one.
Only giving it up for a new 2012.
I prefer black bikes, and I'm not a fan of buying used - it was a 'compulsive' buy at the time, and it was Xmas when I bought it (dealership).........................and, I met the previous / original owner a couple weeks ago. He broke it in by the book - not my style.
Now he's rocking a 2012 ZX14 SE. Hasn't seen over 4,000rpm .
When I buy a new bike, it sees the red line numerous times the 1st day. I always change the oil the same night I buy a new bike, regardless of mileage.

I had an SP2 that i recently parted out. Just be careful of replacement parts. Since there weren't a whole ton of them made, and attrition of crashes the prices of parts are pretty ridiculous. I parted out my track SP2 for over $6000 total so don't expect parts to be cheap cause it's an older bike. And that was with selling the engine and all electronics for $300 total because i couldn't find the problem with it running.

I've always loved the RCs. If/when i get back into the street bike market they'd be towards the top of the list of neato bikes to ride. Along with the Ducati Sport Classic.

Hahahaha here's hopin' gas tanks aren't part of the expensive parts!

Congrats on the house Rich!

Here's a nice 2003 RC51 for investment purposes, barely broken in, with < 1,900kms:

Please buy it, before I go and do something stupid ;)

Holy crap Gary. Nice find!

I got a soft spot for Honda liter bikes. That one is a little too ancient for my taste, but the condition is amazing! Still casually looking for a 09-11 CBR ABS for about that same money. Either that, or less likely a K1300R.

If the right one at the right price comes along........

Test rode a couple RC51s (SP1 in Aus) back in 2001 when I was looking for a twin, also rode a mates one for a good few 1-200km trips. I ended up going with a TL1000R because of the crazy low down grunt but the RC was probably the better bike overall. I dont regret buying the TL of coarse but if I could afford both back then I probably would have bought them both.

A V-Twin is imo the best choice for riding on the road. Even just riding to the store will put a huge grin on your face without risking your license. The low end torque will get you out of sticky situations more times then you will be able to remember.

I've had 5 of the Suzuki liter twins and concur. VERY satisfying engines.

+1

when i buy a brand new bike, i ride it hard, take it home and change the oil immeiately... remember that decompression is just as important... and try your hardest not to bug down a brand new engine... :D

anywho, used to love the RC51 when i was a younger, still do, but inline 4s for me...

While the RC is not near cutting edge technology compared to all the newer bikes out there, it is still a bike that continues to put smiles on my face.
I haven't been able to bring myself to part with it as it is something unique and different being a Japanese manufactured twin sport bike.
