Yeah not like the liberals, who come to my house every day to hug me and check on my wife and kids because we earn less than 200k/yr....

If today's military will pull the same salary, benefits, danger pay, pensions and later VA benefits and then Insurance payout eventually for the family that my Dad and Father-in-law, brother in law (all career sailors) are on, life isn't so bad. University courses and training in very high paying careers once you go to the private sector if you wish and make good choices.

To say nothing of the other benefits if your smart and take full advantage of real estate ops on postings, overseas gravy rides, tours in naval ships and importation opportunities. None of them would have done anything different.

Ground troops are another thing all together, but you get to pick your attachment to some extent here.

The soldiers that fought in Afghanistan up until 2011 were payed risk and hardship allowances at the high end of the scale.

The soldiers that went to Kabul etc. after the battlegroup left to train the ANA and ANP never went into combat. They job was mentoring/training, not war fighting.

If the allowances were wrong and they were recovered then there is nothing for the soldiers to cry in their air conditioned internet equipped rooms about.

Ask any soldier that was OTW what he/she thinks of the troops in AFG right now making the same thing they did.

Even my first tour (Medusa) and my second to ur (KAF) shouldn't have made me the same money since it's...

The DP and RP was is paid out at a lower level. Not removed completely.

That is true. My tour was not the same as what is going on right now. Friends just came back and it was not the same at all.
I'm just standing up because someone commented that we make too much as it is. The tax break was really what made the biggest difference.

I don't have any major complaints with my job. I knew what I was getting in to and I enjoy it when I get to experience new places and things.

I was comparing my trade and certification level to that of someone employed with the same level of certificates while I'm here at home.

Overseas you don't pay tax (just like any other Canadian citizen) plus the little bit of danger pay. Add the fact that you're not home to spend money (no car insurance, you don't need to rent a place, not wasting money spending it places etc.) and it is good for the bank account.

What are you arguing about? Nobody claimed to be better than anyone else. Nobody claimed they were doing a job that nobody else was willing to do.
Thanks for generalizing what our "military folks" think, you definitely seem to have the inside dope.

You claim you didn't sign up because you didn't want to be a "shill" for the government. Ok, we get it playa'. You didn't sign up, have no clue what it takes, and feel entitled to claim that you're somehow as good as the average grunt. How do you know? How do you know the average Private fresh out of Basic isn't a better person than you?

As for your sorrow for those who did as ordered and "fought pointless and needless wars"; it's the army - that's the point. You do your job as a professional; if you don;t like it, you ask to leave at Her Majesty's pleasure.

Ease up with the gross generalizations and condescension.

Uhhh...the more you make the higher your tax rate and the more of your pay cheque goes....so.....that would mean they like the 1 percent less than the 99
 
tax breaks and loopholes. my friend.. for example most board of directors choose to take the actual salary in the form of stock options and maintain a very low general salary that's why they always say how much they make but rarely how they are actually paid out... say around 50K(some even as low as $35K) and since dividend income is taxed considerable less that our regular income they end up paying less than our lowest tax rate.. capital gains is taxed at about 25%(maximum: only 50% is taxable and minus 50%(max) tax rate to the taxable percentage) and dividend is about 28-30 % roughly WITHOUT jumping through some more loop holes(its considerably lower with them) considering they should be paying a lot higher for their respective actual income level... .. JUST AN EXAMPLE..... actual individual tax bracket WILL vary.... the posted max tax rate is basically to make the average Joe feel better knowing that at least he isn't paying the max rate in reality very few people have to pay it.
