And the guys at work ALL make fun of me for wearing a stab/spike plate in my vest. Good luck to the guard. Only pathetic cowards would come from behind with a knife.

Kevlar only vests will actually do very little to stop a knife.

That's crap, they are definitely not paid enough to worry about getting stabbed. I hope they managed to get all the bastards.
 
$15/hr definitely ain't worth this.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for the guard. + 1 those vests are not meant to protect from knives or anything sharp.

Pretty sure he just came up on them during a patrol. It reads like he interrupted a couple while 1 or more got the drop on him from behind.
 
I do a ****** security job at a commercial building, get paid close to minimum wage and i don't give a **** about anything. I observe and report if i feel like it, the rest of the time i am on my computer. If they expect me to protect their *** for minimum wage, Good Luck!.

Last time the company called me to check if i was on a Patrol, I was running the company's Golf Cart under the Don valley Chasing Rabbits :P...Literally!

All aside i really feel sorry for the guy. Sometimes the things they ask of you are almost impossible and the equipment is insufficient.....I had to Patrol(10Pm-6Am), answer calls and check CCTV for 4 buildings each 20+ floors from 10am-6Pm........They quite literally expected me to do all this....Guess what i was doing......driving their golf Cart all over the place(sobeys, Shawarma, Pizza Pizza etc.....even Tim Hortons drive through....Having BBQ almost every 4th day with my friends down in the valley, performing antics(skidding on ice, Mud)....Ah the Good ol Days.....

End of Rant!

We dont know the specific details, but there's a good possibility that he didn't have a chance to disengage.

The Big Mac in the commercial literally took over 80 man hours and $10,000 in designers, artisans, photographers, media consultants to create a single image.

The Big Mac you get takes 30 seconds and 1/120th of an hours wage (8.3 cents) to assemble and present to the customer. And yet no one's life is on the line.

I can't blame them guards.

my point was minumum wage, minimum effort. fast food or security.

When it comes to contract security, you're usually gonna get the bottom of the barrel. First off, the client will take the lowest bidder, and when it comes to overall budget cuts security is the first place they'll cheap out. Second, the contract company needs a cut in order to maximize profit. Hence, the guards themselves get minimum wage.

It's a crap job and unduly risky for those who work at certain locations.
