I was spoiled by a high grade Toto (once I learned what the buttons did as they were all in Korean and the learning process did not go smoothly). I was looking for similar. The toilet I want to put it on is round and all of the affordable toto's I have found were elongated. I may give up and go your route as an intermediate step. Soft-close for the ring on that toilet failed and I haven't replaced it as I always assume that the bidet is just around the corner.Within 2 weeks of getting home from Japan I bought 2 bidet lids for my toilet, they were on sale for $80/each at Costco. They are no frills cold water only but they are fine even in winter and extra refreshing in summer. Bonus is they are soft close too. $99 right now, 15min to install.
