This is BS!!

It's likely not really an $1800 increase. What is likely missing from the OP's post is that the $3000 he paid was likely for the remaining part of a year (June - October), not an entire year (March - October). So if he got his insurance part way through the year, they would have charged him $3000 to cover the remainder of the year until March 2012. Now since it's time for a renewal, he's likely getting dinged the full rate. Of course, I could be wrong, but given that he started riding in June, it sounds like that's what might have happened.

This is correct. I posted the TD/Meloche/Primmum premium earning schedule in my sticky here:
http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...immum-policy-Want-to-know-your-Penalty-Refund

With TD/Meloche/Primmum, 62.5% of your annual premium is used up from about June 19 to December 31. To annualize the OP's premium, it's simple division:

Annualized Premium
= $3000 / 62.5%
= $4800

The OP didn't mention the specific date that his policy took effect, but June 19 makes the numbers work out.

Was this not in the contract you signed with TD? Or did you just fail to read it?

While certainly mentioned in the contract, I know that when I got my insurance through TD, the agent made it very clear to my what my yearly insurance rate was, and also what amount I was going to pay that first year pro-rating it accordingly for the portion of the season that was remaining. Ie, "Your rate is $1000/yr but since it's already May, the remainder for this year is $800" or something along those lines.

This is why it pays to think about some of the posts that get posted online. While this thread is littered with "TD sucks!" and "TD is a ripoff!" style posts, the problem appears to be with the information provided by the OP, or insufficient communication at the time he made the insurance commitment (on his or TD's part).

i'm with TD and honestly, they were the cheapest around (Jevco, Statefarm, Rider's Plus, Mantha...all were much more expensive)...i'm 43, female, no tickets/accidents in the past 3 years, full coverage on a 2009 kawasaki vulcan 500 (cruiser) for $700/year...and yes, they only charge (deduct premiums from your account) from march to september but coverage is year round...

$3400 here on a 2009 ninja 250r. 21 years old, G2M2. Anal Rape...... :(

This was my first season, turned 21 in December so I was 20 when I got my insurance. G2M2 with RTI training, clean record.. Primmum charged me $2800 for a 7 month policy from June to February on an 08 GS500. I know that's a lot of money, but it seems better than what some of you are paying for a 250r

Gotta get to shopping around for next year if TD is planning on gouging me

3 grand for a 250 ? holy crap.

I would have ridden with no insurance, and taken the fine if i got caught...lol

currently, i pay 500 a year for a 650

Depends on many factors. His age how long hes been driving, how long hes had his license. Anything in his record, where he lives. The vehicle he is insuring, your sex (male or female).

Honestly I tell people to not look to others for what their quotes are. There are too many dividing factors that can change how one person is quoted over another. Call everyone and anyone.

As for TD... I have my car with them. Asked them for a quote for a 650 cruiser when I got my license.... they wanted $6000. All my other quotes were $3000. And the agent was all smug on the phone talking about how he would offer me the lowest rates of all my quotes. Didnt like it too much when I told him he was double and couldnt stop laughing.

Also important to notice that TD has two independent arms that sell insurance, TD Insurance and TD Meloche Monnex. When people refer to just "TD" you never know what they mean. They are different, and in my personal situation TD Meloche Monnex offers me the most inexpensive insurance on my litre bike by a vast amount. Less than half than the quotes I had from Primmum, Jevco, State Farm, etc. Because each person's situation is different, you still gotta do the legwork.

I can guess that you are over 30yo?

It is exactly how u say with the exact date. But when i did get my insurance the agent on the phone said to me that my $3000 that ill be paying will cover me from june 2011 to june 2012, but my insurance slip that they will mail me will expire in feb 2012 and ill need to contact them at that time and they will send me a new one for no cost. That is the very reason as i bought the motorcycle in the first place as i would not have payed $3000 for 4 months of insurance under any circumstances. This is the reason i asked if i could take any legal action because i pretty much duped into this, even tho i have no record of it.

OP, did you read my sticky to help you find the cheapest insurer?

http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-Insurance-Company-will-give-me-the-best-rate

Yes sir i did. But TD gave me the best rate at the time so i went with them.

Was this not in the contract you signed with TD? Or did you just fail to read it?

I did not sign anything as everything was done on phone. I simply recieved the insurance slip via mail.

Bike alone policy only. I am pretty sure for non-sportbike jevco(thru broker) is the cheapest for young riders, for sport bike - facility(thru broker) is the cheapest.

21 myself paying $2500 for r6, paid $1800 for ninja when i was 20.
