I was once a whiz at excel. Then they redid a bunch of sheet with a big upgrade/revision and after that I could barely use it, struggling to find where familar icons had been hidden in new drop down menus. Progress... bah humbug, get off my lawn.
 
I used to consider myself 'excellent' in Excel...until I met some young engineers....

Turns out I'm a Neanderthal when it comes to Excel...

When I was laid up waiting for back surgery and consuming scary quantities of Percocet, I created a monstrous but superb Excel-based calculator using integration math equations, 1000 rows 24 columns, with pretty colors too. (I'd rather not share what it calculates, I do need "some" degree of anonymity, and it's available for sale on my website) Excel is very powerful. But too much of it is unhealthy and will turn you into a weirdo.

Any recommendations on how to get more proficient at Excel? I don’t ever expect to reach the levels of the young guns….but going from Neanderthal to early human would be nice.

Well, I found that resorting to reading help files and Google-ing things can be the fastest way to solve an issue.
I also got some good help from some fine nerds here: MrExcel
 
I thought I was ok with Excel, let's call it slightly better than the average regular user, and then I saw a whiz do magic. I have never felt so inept in my life.
 
Used to code in Excel for a brokerage firm.

When they switched to VB, we switched to Powerbuilder & Sybase.

Circuits are easy, you just need to think of them in terms of something that makes sense to you (hydraulics, water, etc are essentially the same with components relabeled).
