thinking of returning to Canada from California...only now I ride

There's a big difference between "Canada" & "Ontario".
I've spent most of the summer in Montreal, and there traffic isn't quite as bad as the GTA...but it's close. BUT, people there actually are aware of their surroundings, and not only DON'T try to block you, but MOVE OUT OF THE WAY TO GIVE YOU SPACE! It was mind blowing...and I sign I've been in the Socialist Police State of Neo-Libtardism for too damn long.

To answer your question, yes. Ontario, especially the GTA, is full of self centered retards. Even more so than Cali. If you filter on a regular basis (like me), expect atleast one self centered retard to block you once a day. For no other reason than you are moving and they are not.

Stay the hell in Cali...not only will you be classed as a "new rider" by insurance companies (your Cali record doesn't count, if you had an Ontario license as far as insurance companies are concerned the black hole of your time out of province you simply haven't been on the road), but even the retarded DMV system will look blissfully efficient compared to the cluster**** that is the MTO nowadays.

And you gave me a good belly-LOL talking about the suing the police. In a word, no. It's even written into the fine print of the "street racing law" 172...police officers & dept's are specifically exempt from any liability no matter what the outcome of your charge. You might try a half assed Charter challenge...oh wait, it's been done before. And lost. This is Canuckistan...not only can a cop shoot you in the back of the head for doing nothing more than drinking a beer in a parking lot after a hockey game, but he won't even lose a days pay over it.

Ontario has indeed gone full retard.

That is not true as I move back from California to Toronto and as long I showed I had proof of insurance in LA I was not considered a new rider. I just moved to Portland and my insurance for my Ducati SF is 480 and my MV is 500. All I had to do was provide proof of insurance and a clean record.

thanks Sal, I don't have to come back but my entire family is in Ontario and they're not getting any younger...

You saw the good part of LA if you were driving around Malibu and the 1, gotta be affluent to live in that area, but if you can get score a job that pays 100-200k in Santa Monica or somewhere in the SFV you can commute on canyon roads everyday and live somewhere in Malibu, would be a good time.

I'm thinking of having kids as well and the school system here is horrible, and at the risk of sounding arrogant people here seem for lack of a better word...dumb.

If I can find a job in the KW area or Owen Sound I may return, definitely not moving to the GTA for any amount of money, no offense to anyone who likes it there.

I've ridden up the coast to SF bay and spent some time in that area as well, definitely where you want to be in terms of California...roads just as good but less concrete jungle type living...I will miss the canyon roads and mountains if I return, but I'm hoping track days and maybe car rally racing in the winter will fill that gap

When I moved back I missed the canyons and the roads but found great roads to ride in Toronto. Just an FYI got pulled over for having California plates in Toronto. If you become a resident you will have to change ownership.

You gota visit the local timmies to see the sports, otherwise it's all cruisers and so on in the country side as you said =) Same was true for the states during my 15-day adventure this month. I've seen a few thousand cruisers, mainly because of Sturgis Rally, and only a handful of sports.

Sport tourers are found out in the country too . Often flying by those "cruisers" and "wild Hogs "

In Ontario you need to ride 1 hour to find 5 minutes of nice road.
In Cali, you ride 5 min to find 1 hour of the best road you have ever been on. (Glendora comes to mind!)

Just came back from Cali and would love to go back and stay there if I can.

Main difference is most drivers are more aware of their surrounding mainly because they know that bikes filters and expect them to do so as compared to more self centered drivers we have here in Ontario.

Muholland was a blast and while at Angel Cres the sheriff actually pulled over to let me pass and enjoy the twisties.

Only thing that I may not get used to is the warm weather.

I guess it will be always greener on the other side and we won't know the difference until we go out there and personally experience it.

This needs to be emphasized.

Where is this 5 mins of nice road exactly ?

(seriously asking)

Snake Road, and Forks are two. I hate both because I expected something longer.

Highway 507 is really nice but you need to be doing some ungodly speeds to get any thrill out of the corners.

Unfortunately compared to roads in Cali this road are considered not nice at all :(

I haven't ridden out of the country so meh! My experience is not ruined...yet.

I found one road that almost qualifies and it was a decent length, almost a canyon, can't gas it in the straights though because people live on it.

I forget what it's called but it cuts over toward Westport from 7A

K193 I have been filtering for several years here, have been charged a couple of times. The charge in both times was consistent and said something about not following marked lanes, went to court and it got reduced to failure to show signal when changing lanes. A minor conviction that insurance didn't care the least about, and my record isn't clean.

I believe the stunting charges are simply mentioned here more as a scare tactic because one or maybe two times a guy got charged for that. The cops can throw their power around after that law came into affect but I don't see Toronto cops use that law on people who filter in traffic especially if you are polite as mentioned.

Check out peterson rd and elephant lake road (up by 507) if you haven't before. Equally fun corners at more reasonable speeds ;)

Noted and thank you. Will look for gas stations up there first!

Yeah man I'm back in LA now, I realized after I left that basically motorcyclists in Canada who don't split are just afraid to or lack the slow speed skills to do it safely.

learning to ride in CA where it's legal gives a huge advantage; basically the opponents of splitting and filtering are jealous car drivers and inexperienced or unskilled motorcyclists who would never do it anyway

lol

Both your proposition and logic are incorrect in 1 post.

I've split lanes in California in 4-5 days 100x more than I have in Ontario in 3 years.

Am I afraid ? No. It's just something called responsibility.

you call it responsibility, I call it you being a puss...semantics really...speeding is illegal, yet everyone in Ont does it and now it's accepted practice. Maybe it's time you live up to your responsibility as a rider and start splitting so it can be accepted too...

I doubt you were splitting in CA much with that attitude, maybe ******** your pants the whole time (which would explain you trying to rationalize not doing it upon your return to ONT)
