Thinking of buying a big boy bike

I do like the 3.7 on the CB500x but then a bit more ooomph is nice.... but then the CBF1000 is just about double that :(
 
Checked out an older Concours today. Ergonomics felt more sport than touring. The owner mentioned there are an optional lowered pegs.
Also took an FJR1300 around the block. Little easier on my long legs. Felt really easy to ride.
I like that the Concours is half the price. Granted the maintenance will cost more, but not thousands more.

Another $1000 gem. 1985 Honda Goldwing - If you like Hondas, this is a really cool bike. 11000km, that bike had more tech and gizmos than you'll find on most luxury cruisers today. And everything will work forever.

And another decent ST commuter (you can buy lower fairings for a few hun) 2003 Suzuki Bandit

I do aweful things to motorcycles, like ride them every day rain or shine, occasionally in snow, mud or standing water, often on gravel.* The closer to 'no depreciation left to deduct', the better. I know, I know... KLR, but my *** is too old for that.
*Except for the bike I'm trying to sell at the moment ;-)

Based on this statement alone, I’d say Vstrom 650 and never look back. Maybe have an extra set of wheels with adv suited rubber to swap out from time to time.

End the search, drop the mic. End of story.

If you get the Connie, you'll probably get to know Murph, if he's still around.
The peg lowering kit I had, used Goldwing pegs, which are more comfortable, but it compromised the lean angle quite a bit.
My recollection was that you could load about 350 pounds max on the Connie, but I may be wrong. It should say in the owner's manual.

2005 owner's manual says 441 lbs. That works for me.
The owner of the bike directed me to Murphs site. There's a bike already with the pegs and other farkles listed cheaper that I may go look at.

O.k. It might have been the V65 Magna that was 350 pounds. If you're 165 pounds soaking wet, it won't not make a difference, but if you're over 220 and carrying a passenger, it gets a little more involved.

Good that you were linked to Murphs, it looks like they don't have the cruise control available any more.
 
And the winner is a 2005 GTR1000 Concours.
Not the lightest or fastest, but for the money it is. And previous owner has a garage floor you can eat off of. I love it when guys like that sell their bikes. I have in writing every oil change and valve check. Not that it has enough mileage to have many valve checks.
The GL 650 will remain in service as the bush bike.
CBR 250 for sale. Probably won't get real interest until spring
