They want to Change our Anthem

Didn't they recently wanted to change the anthem for different ethnic groups?

I should get outta this place

Leave as is. You change it once then someone else will want another change for another reason.

People have too much time on their hands.

I still sing the English only version because it is the only one I know. I have no desire to learn the french words, nor any other politically correct words.

this should only cost several million dollars, they should get right on that.

No you've got it wrong. Several million dollars JUST for the study. Then several MORE for the actual change! Let's go burn some more money peoples!

they can take the mention of god and french out of it too.. I remember the last time it was changed.
It was originally written in French la la la.
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

All together now ...
We should always sing the whole thing rather than just the first verse, but some people's attention spans...

I have no idea how to sing all those hashtags.

Right on, eniac!!!

Just change "god" to "we" and leave the rest as is.

ENIAC, I like singing our National Anthem, and indeed I sing "WE keep our land ... " about as loudly as I can.

My principal reason is simply that what you and I sing is TRUE; what the rest sing is a pitiful plea to a fictional being.

Re: Right on, eniac!!!

Instead of just reading the headlines maybe you should do some research into this.

The original was changed in 1913 to "all they sons command" so it's more of a restoration than a change. And English versions already incorporate changes such as "from far and wide" and "god keep our land".

My feeling for the change was negative till I found out exactly the same as CrazyKell did. In that context, all that is being asked is for that particular line to be reverted to what it was before 1913. I'm fine with that as it satisfies those that want gender neutral and those that are resistent to change within the anthem.

Leave it as it is now. We don't need to change or anthem for any fanatical group or religion.

All of the above, especially the too much time on their hands part.

Careful now, you may offend some religion or group of people with talk like that. Who cares about us and our country or our anthem

As funny as it is, I only know it word for word in french. :dontknow:

Re: Right on, eniac!!!

If they want to change it back, let's change it back, but it's "in all Thou dost command"[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif], not some new drivel.

Or you can always quickly add "and daughters" to the abhorrent verse.

Sorry, somehow the forum isn't bilingual, for cut and paste.
