Im not really into the vfr's too much, so take this w a grain of salt...
02, 18 years old... if its truly mint- good chain / sprockets, tires, no fork seal leaks, good brakes, is that a corbin seat?, ready to pass cert, or already done would influence my price... $2500 to $2900 seems reasonable.

Haha, I've been waiting for a $2500 early 00's VFR forever. No way the seller lets it go for so little.

Not saying it's worth a lot more, just saying the asking prices are super high for such an old bike. They tend to be very clean though.

Cam chain tensioner needing replacement is slightly worrisome, either its that (possible....) or with 80,000km the cam chain is worn out and needs replacement. Not a hard job honestly but if you're paying someone to do it decent amount of labour to do the chain. I assume they are saying that because the motor has a lot of chain noise.
 
That VFR1200 is way too big a bike for you ( or me ) and fits nowhere. ( I rode one when they came out ) It has gobs of torque that you can never use, too heavy

..a pretty pig....there is a reason Honda brought back the VFR800.

Users say the DCT worked well but I've never liked Honda's version of an automatic.

That automatic would take away half the run of riding it.
 
@oioioi and @MacDoc I've driven the DCT version of the Honda NC750X and honestly wasn't that bad. Sure it took a while to get going on it, but overall it was a good experience.
Clear windy road - manual allowed me to hold the gear
Traffic / bumper to bumper / city - put in auto mode and enjoy
Overall a good experience, but a bike in an auto...maybe one day.

As for the Shadow...I still have a horny feeling for the Sportster 883...but the Shadow RS is the closest I can come to the 883 in price...within this decade. Unfortunate but budgets are budgets.

I've ridden some of the sporties in the past, dont know if the shadow is like it, but the stock suspension on the sporties is god awful, like spine jarring

I saw the shiny 48 and took it for a spin, light, nice to look at, but gonna need back surgery after

Maybe times have changed, but back when I was looking, I remember finding mint condition 2003 CBR600RR's that were only a year old and less than 3000 kms for about the same price.
