The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

wow good price but likely major service due and that will cost a pretty penny

Quick googling does show the first valve clearance check is at 40k kms, so I suppose if it does need an adjustment then it would require some $$$ sunk into it

yep, i know specs say different things, but mechanics say better to be safe and check around 20-25k.

No mention of any maintenance. Check the forks for leaks and alignments.
Also insurance on that WILL be pricey.

Don't think so ...kids cost on the FZ8 was only a little more than his SV650s. FZ9 same upright sport tourer.
First year had some twitchiness with the throttle system. The Yammy triples set a new value for money standard.
At $5k ...pretty fine deal tho it is a first year model.

I had my CBF1000 valves checked at 35k km and none were out of spec FWIW. 53k km ....I'd say it needs doing.

Rider I met the other day with the same year as mine had his checked at 55k km for first time and several were out of spec.
No long history with the Yammy triples for high mileage - the Honda inline 4s have a big time record for going forever.

pretty close, maint sched is 42k, to check only
never owned a bike that actually needed anything more than a check at the first interval

MacDoc is correct about the 847cc CP3 engine
no history to go on, but can't see a problem sticking to the maint sched

no way I'm gonna take the valve covers off at 20K...too late, already at 30

I know good, knowledgeable mechanics are worth their weight in gold nowadays, but I'm always gonna be highly skeptical of any mechanic that says they know better than a team of engineers at a major manufacturer who designed the machine to begin with. (But yes, engineers screw up often too)

Classic Ninja 600 if anyone is interested in them.
1986 Kawasaki Ninja 600, 28000km, needs rear brake cover, battery & new tank or work done to existing tank, $600: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sport-bikes...de/1358855977?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Your right, though I do recall watching a video on why companies use the numbers they do. Sometimes it's not the engineers, but the marketing and accounting teams that make them, this is so if someone sees say a bike similarly priced that needs a check done at 25k, vs one at 30k, they may be swayed to the longer intervals thinking its cheaper to own and more reliable.

yes
maintenance decisions need to be based on solid data
the 2 accepted sources are manufacturer, and industry history
a couple of mechanic's opinions don't count
and until there is some reputable history
all we have for this relatively new engine is the Yamaha maint sched

Valves on these are typically a bit tight from the factory. Not a big deal to adjust.

Insurance doesn't HAVE to be pricey. Mine isn't.

Out of curiosity I called my insurance company today for a quote on the FZ09... $45 more per year than my sv650s. I might be on an FZ sooner than I originally planned.

Who you with?

In my mind this bike came out like yesterday, so my gut reaction is holy **** that's cheap but I guess 5 years and 50K makes it not crazy?

That's hilarious, I thought the exact same thing. I think Honda was asking around $11k msrp, so the ad pricing makes sense. Also makes it super tempting.
