The police want access to your conversations

Threats, lies and intimidation are a big part of the job. This would be a good time for Turbodish to share some knowledge with everyone. Is it legal to record police in Ontario?

If you're a party to the conversation, then it's 100% legal to record it even if he doesn't know about it. Warning: This applies for Ontario only. I don't guarantee other jurisdictions.

If you're recording a cop in a public place or public access location, while he's dealing with someone else, it may be a bit of a gray area, but you're probably in the legal clear.

If you're filming a cop while he's inside a private residence and you're not in it, chances are that you'd be breaking the law.

With all that being said.. I think this redridernl dude is the type that likes to resist lawful arrest and whose camera doohickeys aren't made of sturdiest materials

... and the bruises were already there.

I'm forgetting whether it's your natural complexion or from a previous fall down the stairs after you walked into a door.. One or both, doesn't matter, it's all on you, civvie scum!

They can spy on me all they want... they'll only find porn and my penis pics.

As long as those pics don't make it out to anyone under 16, you should be safe :D

I think you are a bit late in bringing up this issue.
Canada usually follows England in police matters, and people in England are already being jailed for refusing to hand over their encryption codes.
Its all in the Anti Terrorism act brought in by Tony Bliar : For your comfort & safety.
So its only a matter of time before it arrives on your doorstep.
As the Lefties say, If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.
At least you guys can still own guns !

You're naive to say the least. You really think insurance companies want to track you so that YOU can save 25?? |they want to do it so that when you wreck and they have a 50K claim they can go back, show that you were going 10km/h over the speed limit at the time of the accident and then tell you that because you broke the law they will no longer pay out... but go ahead, go with the flow, cause im the crazy one lol

lol@person who thinks insurance wants to track them to help them save 25%.

I always have a good laugh when people counter with reasons such as "If you have nothing to hide, why are you afraid?" or, "you're being paranoid". It's evident that most people are so self-absorbed with slaving their day jobs to buy themselves makeup and jewels, they have absoluetly no concept of what's taking place in the reality outside of their lives. But of course, that's how it's manufactured to be, and there will always be some dolt out there willing to take the word over reason of anybody who imposes some form of authority onto them.

You can surrender your private communication, and information all you desire. That is your decision to make, but respect the decision of the countless other people who don't feel the need for anybody they do not permit to have access to *any* of their information.

None of you are getting anything out of me consentually unless there is an obvious and pleasing benefit in it for me. More likely than not, if it has to be demanded, and enacted without my say, then it's not in my benefit.

Hahaha, my ex used to do everything that authority requires, no questions ask. Maybe it has to do with her working for the gov't, lol. She bought an Iphone and for u to activate it, it requires your address, name, etc. I told her to just randomly put one, but she insisted on putting the real thing. Why would u want to tell the truth to complete strangers?

Whenever I return something in the store, I just pull a # outta my arse.

The standard answer to the "If you've got nothing to hide...." b.s. is to say "I got nothing to hide, but I got nothing to show either, now leave me alone"

+1 It's amazing what those in power can accomplish with using fear as a weapon.

It looks like the "[un]lawful access" provisions are off the table, mostly because the whole bill could get scrapped in court as unconstitutional just based on that. Fortunately, our legal profession is still the voice of reason (for now). The mandatory minimums for what should really be non-crime are still in.

What is a non-crime?

This is why I don't go along with the majority rule thing..you never know what fearful, manipulated people will do. The constitution exists to stop things like this from happening because one group thinks it's a good thing.

The only problem is that ours is kinda crippled by its very first section. Fortunately, our legal profession has been mostly responsible about it so far.
