Then you don't understand the purpose of zoos today. Many, but not all unfortunately, have shifted their focus to conservancy. Take a couple of minutes to check out this link http://www.durrell.org/ . Started by Gerald Durell in 1959.

Not true at all sadly. Most zoos pedal the conservancy aspect as a public relations exercise as the alternative isn't very palatable for the paying public.

The politicians should have to work underneath it for a month without leaving. Might change their attitudes a wee bit.
 
I'm not so enthusiastic... They're pretty boring and can't even manage to get sex right. Unfortunately, the GF is making me bring her from Ottawa down to see them this summer. Luckily I do like most of the zoo, and we're bringing the bike. She heard something about a big aquarium openning this summer in the GTA?

All in all, this is just like Oprah coming to Ottawa. Everyone was talking about it, and I could care less and don't really see what the big deal is.
 
I can't believe the Ripley's Aquarium is news to people. It had a lot of media exposure when breaking ground. Just saw a feature about the transparent underwater tunnel construction.

This aquarium sounds great.

I dunno if it's true but I heard some of those "safari" zoos drug up some of the animals so they're less dangerous.

yeah, rumours. but judging from last year's visit to african lion safari I wouldn't be too surprised. the only danger there are the monkeys trying to break your car windows/mirrors.

I was about 4 years old and we did the drive through thing in my dad's Dodge d-50. Had a tiger jump in the bed of the truck and lay down. Bottomed out that little truck, took them a few minutes to get him out!
