The olympics...

Russia is caught cheating and told they can no longer compete. Then they get to compete by pretending they're not really russia. Then a russian skater gets caught red handed and is allowed to continue because "you know she's just so good".
Don't even get me started on how the world's worst human rights offenders get to host the games .....

It's sad. It used to be about sport but that's long gone.

I’ve got enough entertainment within our borders to bother checking in on athletes in far away space.

Although I did catch some glimpses of athletes’ plight in the Chinese Olympic village.

Not watched any of it. I used to enjoy watching the ski jump and the wipe outs as they were epic. Seems like it’s lots of X-games bollocks now. I have no interest watching a stoner do a twisty triple bejesus with a tuck on his snowy board and curling isn’t the same without the closet alcoholics.

They won't hold Olympics during a pandemic, that would be both stupid and political.

Great nail biter hockey game and Slovakia knocked the US out. Really good game and terrific goal tending on both sides coming down to the last two tie breaker shots and the Slovaki player scored and the US was shut out with no goals after 5 tries.

I like the Olympics as spectacle and a chance for the world to come together ...something too rare. The athetes should not get tangled in the geo-politics.

The half pipe, ski cross, and aerials are spectacular and entertining ...a much needed injection of excitement to the somewha staid nordic sports.

Those aerial kids have travelled the world together to perform in World Cup events. The slow mo replays just makes it marvelous.
I like the ski jumping but the aerials are sooooo much more exciting.

Big Air Shougang is located in the Beijing zone of the three Olympic areas. It hosts men's and women's freeski and snowboard big air. The starting point where snowboarders and skiers drop into the jump is a staggering 155 feet above the venue's ground.

The traditional ski events GS and downhill I also enjoy....xcountry not so much.

Love the freestyle figure skating. Recall seeing Torville and Dean bring the house down with Bolero and break the mould. Makes me old eh.

We watched some skating ( which i hate) and some slope side , a friends nephew is skiing for Canada . The ski cross is fun .

I can’t get behind any sport where the first guy over the line doesn’t win . Any sport with judges is athletic, has massive talent , but what a fake as a “ competition “

Then there is this BS
I guess people have no shame, enjoy all the benefits of the country supporting you, but turn your back on it. 🤷‍♂️

Last I checked China doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. So all these people ‘recruited’ by China are giving something up. Have to wonder what’s enticing them to make this decision. Opportunity not available in their local programs? Wealth?

Apparently that is it, $$$ lots of Chinese product endorsements have been thrown her way. But from the basics I've read she trains, live's and plans to go to school in USA. Oh and she might have been give some kind of exception.

It’s not uncommon to train in other nations iirc. Some of our hockey players play Pro in Europe.

I am Russian and yesterday my boss told me : "don't worry, I wouldn't test you for doping" - what a relieve! as you all know every single of us dope even when we don't need to haha

It sounds like China is letting athletes maintain dual (or at the very least, not bothering to look into it). They want the medals and glory at any cost.

The goalie had to give up her Canadian citizenship. But maybe that was related to our debacle with the Michaels…

Or maybe they thought who cares about our chances at hockey. No leverage so goodbye citizenship.

I suspect the package for each athlete was correlated on the money and glory associated with their participation. A goalie on a losing hockey team will have a lot less leverage than a gold medal winning model.

Very enjoyable game between Finland and defending champs ROC ...Finland gets it's first gold in hockey.(y)

Terrific closing ceremony ...don't know how some of the graphics are done.
Lot of happy atheletes and some incredible back stories. One girl won silver on a broken leg and torn ACL.

and another wins a bronze on a fractured ankle in slopestyle !!!!
