Is that the one from Amazon earlier in the thread?

I like it.

I'm tempted to pick up one of these...but not sure as reviews are that it's 'not a cheap OMEGA, but an expensive SWATCH'...

Is it even possible to get one yet I would assume it might be after all this time

Can you find one for msrp? I don't see them appreciating in value (especially for a far over msrp purchase price). Interesting concept though. Personally, I wouldn't get one. If I want a moon watch, save for a real moon watch (that will appreciate). The officially sanctioned knock-off is weird to me. Also ticking second hand on a $400+ watch (especially one copied off the moonwatch) doesn't bring me joy.

On the Moonswatch it really is a love it or hate it thing. No doubt it is an expensive Swatch, a premium is paid for the Ω and Speedmaster on the watch. Some feel the value is not there, some feel it democratizes the Speedmaster for the masses. Like everything in life, premium is not directly proportional nor 100% causation to value.

As for value/cost, you can get a metal cased Swatch Chrono with a Tachometre like the Speed Up or Night Flight for much less money. Or look at a Pagani Design for even less money. Or really any quartz based chronograph...

Or another way to look at it, at the current $320 CDN price point, they are pretty much selling as many as they can make.... So someone got it right (maybe they even went too low?) from a business/supply/demand perspective.

I am considering getting them for the kids and wife. There are models that are hard to get but we were there Saturday night (Eaton centre) and they had Mars and Uranus (the ones the kids like, but I did not pull the trigger) and a couple of other models in stock.

The really hard ones to get are still Moon and Mercury as they have the most Speedy Pro vibe/look. AFAIK Neptune is currently out of production due to the blue coming off on the wrist.

Yes, apparently much easier to find now, but as @backmarkerducati mentioned some are harder to find than others. I see people trying to post them for $500 on the watch FB group and they get mocked out of there as they're not so hard to get.

Good call...maybe just saving for it over long term is the way to go. I'm not buying this thing to 'appreciate' in price, but just for me. Kids are too young still, but as @backmarkerducati it could be a good option for the kiddos as they get older.

They definitely hit the ball out of the park with this thing. Good way to drive traffic to their stores as they weren't (maybe still aren't) available online.

I'll have to look into the ones you mention (in bold) as I'm not familiar.

An upside to the Pagani is then you can legitimately tell people you own a pagani. Button down shirt with a few buttons open and chest hair poking out and red shoes and people may believe you have this. Make sure to turn up the accent when you are talking.

A caution on metal Swatches, they use an integrated bracelet/strap design (not standard lugs), I see this as a big negative as you can't just swap it out when it breaks or if you want a different look or feel.

Pagani Design, San Martin is another one. They make a lot of homage style watches of various different models. For some this may fill a gap or give them the opportunity to try something out, for some it won't... I think both use a mecha quartz chrono movement in there Speedmaster homages (quartz but the chronograph second hand has more of a mechanical look sweep).

You can imagine my confusion when you and @crankcall were talking about a Caterham...watch...not car I assume.

If your standing in a circle of dive watch guys , super 7 is a watch , if there are some car guys around they almost always default to the sports car.

Guy here in the office yesterday bought the Omega/Swatch moonwatch , new at retail from a dealer in Halifax, they would not let him purchase over the phione, nor put it on hold . He had one of our customers in Halifax go grab it, they had two. He likes the moonwatch and the mission to mars model and is leaning that way.

I'm in the camp that its a fake and disrespecful to the brand, but the whole planet is talking about it, they sell out fast and Omega/Swatch keeping the release numbers low, building the hype. Its very successful marketing . I will never wear one.

My biggest issue is the pricing and made-up scarcity + hype for the moonswatch for the quality.
It's a plastic quartz watch with pushers that pop-off in a few months, printed on dial and colours that stain wrists. There are legitimate videos and reviews showing these issues.
Whereas there are many better choices for the same money even just shown in this thread so far. Tissot PRX 80 is an amazing alternative for the same or less money (too bad it doesn't fit my small wrists).

But hey, if it gets more people into horology and watches at least it's doing some good.
I just learned that they no longer have analog clocks in classrooms and most kids don't even know how to read a damn clock or watch.

For whats its worth , I drove an actual lotus super 7 , not the catterham , its a frightening thing , very lightly builtd

Former coworker got hit by a transport truck on the QEW in his Caterham Super 7. He climbed out of it without a scratch (car was a write-off). The driver of the transport was killed in the accident.

My 30yr old daughter had trouble with clocks with hands , she was in the digital clock era , even though we had “clicks” she just looked at her phone or the microwave. It was not taught in school , we didn’t notice , she could tell time , just not conventionally.
