The last 365 days, what's changed with you?

Let me guess, It’s going to be a Harley. Am I right?

Funny you say this. I was honestly debating a cruiser a while back lol

The stereotype effects me too.

Ooof….in 1 year…

- quit the BC job to work in Toronto with a 50% pay cut but way more time with the family and loving it
- gained 10lbs…lost 5lbs
- started riding again
- passed the PEO exam as I need it (working on my experience summary)
- promoted at work
- learned to make an extremely good type of alcohol (so very very good)

Nothing really stands out but felt like my relationships started regrowing again. After being away so much your life changes, people grow more distant. And yes covid doesn’t help but I was able to rebuild that loss with cousins, sister, parents, and took 3 months of me being home for my son to see I’m not leaving them again.

Love it.

Now to only lose 10lbs more.
Fixed it for you.

On the down side I have become extremely cynical of politicians and Canada's direction.

On the upside I have become more appreciative of the little things in life.

I feel that isolation from old friends may never be fully restored but new friends have come into my world.

A true friend is always a friend. You're always happy to see them, whether it's once a day or once a decade.

I'm a lot more tolerant than i used to be. If you know me, you know that means I'm still not very tolerant.

lots happen in a year:

got older.
had a kid.
moved.
new job.
caught COVID.
stopped working out.
pulled my neck for the first time last week (probably related).
new bike.
fully vaccinated.
first speeding ticket.

Quit smoking after 53 years
Got a pacemaker at XMAS 🔋
Working 2 hours more per day without the drive in to the office
Feel great

Quit smoking after 53 years
WOW, congrats! You were hardcore for sure.
I quit about 20 years ago and never looked back.

I finally rode to BC and back last summer for my longest solo ride.
I did some really crazy day trip rides that were more intense than anything I’ve done before.
Upgraded the suspension on my bike after years of procrastination.
Due to Covid, my job took a giant change in direction and work/life balance is the best it’s ever been.
Finally paid off my car and it’s nice to have a bit of spending money in my pocket again.
Due to Covid, I was able to spend so much more time at home with my wife which has been amazing.
Dad passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s, and I am the executor, which has been a great learning experience.
My wife and I finally got our wills done.
My wife and I adopted a teenager after years of wanting to.
For those in my life who need it, I started growing organic weed again.
I started having difficulty sleeping at night due to lack of exercise, so I started smoking my weed every night before bed.
Due to the sleep issues, I started working out again and am back to sleeping without weed.
Finished all the upgrades to my DJ booth so I can really enjoy smoking weed!

It’s been a great last 365 and I am very fortunate.

Sorry about your loss @shanekingsley but outside of that looks to have been a hell of a year.
Thanks bud. All good - he greatly enjoyed life and made a very conscious effort to leave the world a better place than he entered. I hope to be so lucky.

Anyone check out the gym lately?

I assumed gym's would be slammed by "new year new me" types so was hesitant to go....but the gym was empty. Only the truly dedicated were there as I recognized nearly everyone, though we've all shrank significantly.

Gonna be amazing watching everyone turn into a beast again, including myself.

There’s a good chance that many people used the last 18 months to buy some home equipment or start learning other types of exercises and workouts that don’t require a dedicated facility like a gym, even if the workouts aren’t as intense as what they were doing at the gym.

Years ago I stopped going to the gym and started with body weight exercises, more cardio and yoga. The yoga studio my wife used to teach at closed down in July due to Covid, and I stopped doing it (and exercise in general) for almost a year, but am now doing it regularly at home. Took a long time to get motivated to do it at home with no one to push me.

Many people might not want to be using a gym anymore due to lingering covid risks which will just take some time to fade away. The F45 gym my wife uses is really struggling now, when they were really busy before Covid.

One thing the last 365 had given people is the knowledge to be more self motivated and less dependent on external influences (gyms, personal trainers, etc) to get their exercise in.

Good point, I forgot about this.

A lot of the beasts I knew built their own gyms....even in condos. The funniest one I know deadlifts 500+ on the 11th floor. His floor has somehow not shattered or dented lol

I spent the last year running but really missed powerlifting in a gym. Getting up at 6AM everyday and running when no one is around requires far more mental fortitude as you said. Doing it for a year, through any weather (including -20 and +30), is another *****.

Going to the gym recently made working out so much easier! Sure, I'm a shell of myself from 2 years ago but I know instantly who will be weaker than me in a few weeks, and who my real targets are. Having this kind of focus is something I really took for granted; my ego needs targets to obliterate and can't sustain off only the me from yesterday.

I'm guessing many others operate the same way and I'd love to hear your unfiltered stories about how you operate as this stuff is qualitative. Found out a friend listens to ******* Disney love songs while lifting and he's ripped......just wtf lol
