The Government....again.

We live in a theoretically classless society however, there are certain people that attempt to maintain the old world strictures that there is a ruling class and a lower class and possibly something in between. In our democratic system, this shouldn't be possible, unless the voters accept the idea that there really is a ruling class. Then they accept the politicians as the rulers. In reality these "civil servants", as they are known, end up assuming the role of rulers. They are only allowed to because the voters let them. For a lot of people (the "lower class", the "majority") it's difficult to come to grips that the roles are reversed and the elected officials and civil servants are by definition "servants", so they allow them ruling authority. But I digress.

There is a "political class" and the rest of us. They are jackasses and should be treated as such. But it's up the the real rulers (voters) to reinforce this. Most don't. Most of western societies' problems would disappear were it nor for these idiots attempting to rule. They foment racism as a means to rule; normal people aren't racist. They stir up class warfare rhetoric to get votes; normal rich people don't push down poor people for fun and profit, nor do poor people want to steal from rich people. They want the opportunity to be rich one day as well and wouldn't want to be stolen from when that happens. Again, I digress.

In summary, society as a whole needs to eject the political class and remind them they are our servants. Cut them off from polite society. Take this to whatever extreme you want. )If you own a business, deny service to them. If they are your neighbor, make life miserable for them (legally of course, no burning pooh bags!!). If it's an in-law, uninvite them from family functions. Extend this to whatever arm of the political class you feel comfortable with. Elected officials first, bureaucrats next, government employees, anyone employed in the public sector, teachers, cops, whatever, anyone affiliated with a union. I personally only know exactly one person in the public sector (my poor old mom is a paper pusher in the vaults somewhere...); I just refuse to affiliate with that scumbag class.

If it's really intended to be a public service, then serve or GTFO. That's it. I know, I'm an extremist, but I'm also a taxpayer, so whatever, lick my boots!

Good points, unfortunately thanks to these same politians, there are less and less informed people that will actually understand what point you are trying to make.
I still can't get over the fact that Bev Oda was re-elected after the s*** she's been upto. I would NEVER vote for a known crook!

It's funny how it's always other people who are uninformed, because to me it's eljay who doesn't get the purpose of politics and who sees stories like this as an argument in support of his misunderstanding.

I, of course, understand everything ;).

The problem of compensation for those that look after us is getting the right balance. Underpay cops, teachers, doctors, nurses and even politicians and you either get losers or they have to take bribes to make ends meet. Overpay them and you attract people only in it for the money. Add to that the attitude of entitlement prevalent today and voila, meet Ms. Oda, Mr. MacKay, most of the senate etc.

We have self serving politicians because we have self serving voters.

Oh, the politicians would do their jobs for free knowing that there's plenty of "golfing" money to be made followed up by lucrative "consulting" "jobs" (separated the quotes on purpose) after they retire.
 
her totally insincere 'apology' today made me vomit in my mouth. . .

we all know that any money she paid back today will be shuffled into various expenses in the future, and the taxpayers will foot the bill again. . .just more discreetly this time.

Her expenses are now under a microscope, or this wouldn't have ever come to light. If she continues to embarrass the government, she'll be on her way out.

i'd be more inclined to believe this if she wasn't already a repeat offender.

she was my mp for years (until i moved). . .there are plenty more f-ups on her watch, and she's survived them all.

it will take a dead body probably before something actually happens to remove her.

She's done stuff like this before and nothing's happened to her. She still comfy in her sport. I definitely blame people in her riding for voting her in again.

Read some of the stuff coming out of the Liberal and NDP camps. There's blood in the water.

She isn't even the worst offender though.
 
Keep buying RRSPS, bonds, Mutual funds...that how these governments get the money to waste on such things.
Everytime you "contribute", they laugh all the way to the bank. All government parties do is waste, thus you see the debt go even higher.

NDP and Liberals are worse than the Cons at waste.
