Why not keep your decks and buy the controller? Run a 4 deck system based on how/what you feel like playing.

oh definitely keeping the decks! just adding the digital component. I still have all my classic house from 86-94 that i indulge in from time to time.

I've grabbed a bunch of the tracks produced by Dusky. Years ago I stopped looking for music by record label and now just look by artist, so I have pretty much stopped paying attention to the labels they are on. I will often use Beatport to see how the additional producers are on tracks I like and then search the entire catalogue on those producers. Leads down it's own rabbit hole too.

No doubt I like some artists more than others, but as a rough rule, I start with labels and work on down to artists, but because of the artist affiliation with hte label, a lot of the 'similar artists' are usually on the same label.

I do a lot digging the way you describe as well - I guess I am wondering out loud if I missed something obvious.

On tuesday (the rainy day), I had spent hours on beatport scouring.

I kind of miss the old days of going to Trax or Play De Record. The amount of variety these days is paralyzing.

(I veer from Deep house to Progressive to Breaks to whatever they call "summer/beach" house [i guess it's funky/groove on beatport, but that's not quite right either)

here's a song that best describes what I like -
- It's called Foggy April from Spencer Brown and Qrion. it was never released officially. It's one of those 'play it loud and shake the house' tracks for me.

With technology the way it is, 'producing' music is so much more accessible which means there are so many more artists and so many artists we have now have access to.

Since you like older classic stuff - here is a cool vid on Plastic Dreams - pretty funny the connection to Donald Trump. It's in Dutch, so subtitles required.

No doubt, digital has effectively wiped out the traditional supply chain.

It briefly touches on Trax Records, the popular house music label. The owner was typically ruthless - if you wanted your music published/pressed, you had to give up ownership/royalties of it to the label. Definitely a common practice at the time for even major labels, and probably still happens to this day. But digital, particularly in the electronic music scene, has broken down some barriers of ownership.
