Re: Honda CRV hits rider

Would go for both of them. Did anyone see a reason for stopping in the passing lane there? No signal and took too long to be moving left or right. Still wrong to run into the back of someone, but I try and be predictable when on the road. If I'm in the passing lane, then I'm passing, not stopping.
still the one behinds fault. sucks tho

His brake lights were on for quite a long time; predictably, his vehicle slowed.

Seriously though, looked like he/she was just leaving a safe gap to the car in front. The rear-ended vehicle didn't decelerate any faster than those in front of it.

I suspect that the hatchback (rear-end-ee) was trying to merge left into the HOV lane and slowed as there was another car coming up in that lane. Sedan (rear-end-er) wasn't paying attention.

I see a similar pattern every day in the HOV merge just south of Hwy 7 - the left lane comes to an unexpected slow/stop. Some drivers don't know/understand how to merge efficiently, or are scared to step on the gas pedal.

I honestly think it was just a matter of maintaining a gap to the car in front, which was slowing. The gap stayed consistent from the moment the 'rear-end-ee' started slowing

Oof, I must have flagged more than one video, the above comment was for the grey car running into the other one in the passing lane.

For the motorcycle "forced" to lane split
, he was tailing the guy in the passing lane too closely, especially when that guy hadn't yet passed the truck. If that guy had slammed on the brakes, the motorcyclist would have become that car's enema. I always wait until the person ahead is going to be clear before making my pass. He then tried to pass that person on the right too quickly afterwards. The guy coming on the ramp, clearly signaled, but was too early getting into the passing lane, and the truck, should probably been in, or moved to the right lane. Lots of poor lane choice all around, but the motorcyclist, wasn't forced to split; he put himself into that position where he had to gamble, and trust other people with his life more than usual.

Re: Honda CRV hits rider

This one is my own. Nothing too dramatic, just a trucker all over the road. I think the white SUV crowded him, so the trucker pushed back... a dangerous game though. Happened on the QEW/403 heading West at Burloak Road.

That's a wierd one. Looks like the trucker was moving over to slot in behind the SUV, at which point the SUV decided at the last minute he needed to take the exit. But if it was OK for the trucker to move left behind the SUV why wasn't it OK for the SUV to move right in front of him? The answer is probably that the SUV started slowing down, but if the trucker didn't give himself enough room to slow down behind him that's on the trucker, not the SUV driver, no?

Looked to me like the truck could have slowed a little, let the guy go right, then speed up and go left.
Lots of unnecessary drama. The only rational reason I can think of, was he was expecting the suv to pull in and brake check him or something. Maybe @private pilot has a better explanation?
