Textile or Leather Pants?

I'm going to buy a pair of pants for better protection since I'm new to riding. Any opinions on textile/leather or even overpants? Any specific recommendations? Anyone been down on their pants before?

Been down under various conditions and there's been times where I didn't even rip my jeans...
Either way leather is best but not too versatile off the bike...for that I got Draggin jeans.
So textile for day to day riding, going out/to school. Leather for trackdays and weekend rides...

less than 40 km/h...I was coming to a stop two of the times and it was wet so I guess that reduced the friction and helped me slide...as well as cause me to go down.

those are nice pants but again they focus on track/twisty riding...
They're not really something I could wear to the mall or to school and walk around without looking like racer boy.
Some of the best overpants I've seen are from Rev'It. They don't have a tapered race cut so they fit comfortably over regular pants...

Kevlar is the best from my readings, but watch this:

my god! the guy was knifing himself...that's gotta hurt!

REV'IT Gear 2 pants leather + mesh.

Hit a deer at 110km/hr and those pants paired with the ignition jacket only minor damage to the gear and myself with only a broken hand... still wearing the pants and jacket untill I get new ones

Did you buy the Draggin jeans online/in store (which store)? how's the sizing?

I highsided with tourmaster flex at 40kmh. There is barely any damage on the outer layer, which isn't even the protective one. I landed on my knees first then my hands. My knees hurt for two days my wrists hurt for months. Considering most of the impact was on my knees, and how bad my wrists were after the crash, I should have shattered my knees. The armor in them saved my knees. I won't ever go out without them.

I went down at like 40 kph and might as well have been wearing paper because my jeans did absolutely nothing.

^^^It was likely the slick wet roads that made the difference...

I bought them at Kahuna, 50% off. They came out to less than 120 bucks. I got the Draggin Oilskins which retail at $289 regular, they're a black canvas type material and fit well and are true to size. Only complaint is when they're on the pockets are a little tight and sit high.

The denim ones were a stretchy variety which I didn't really like. They fit well on the waist but were almost like skinny jeans around my thighs...too gay for my tastes. When I went a size up to compensate for the tightness, because of the stretch the waist was too loose. I came to the conclusion that unless you get a really good price online or know the exact product you want its best to try before you buy...with the different styles and materials you don't know what you're going to get.

I recommend leather, went for a slide in August and my Joe Rocket Blaster leather pants saved a lot of skin.

If you think textiles are quality protection you're wrong. That stuff is only a band aid. Ever seen textile melted to someones skin after a slide? Not pretty. Funny how people look at the track only as needing leather when there's as much or more danger on the street. Wear perforated leather if you're too hot in the summer. Go to I+M leather in hamilton for professionally made Leathers that crash great and for alterations of any leathers at 905-525-7121. I've ridden, raced, crashed, killed deer -chevys and other motorcycles with their stuff over the last 15 years. Wish i'd found them sooner!

I have 4 leather suits and 2 textile ones.
I really like the versatility provided while touring when wearing textile...however I am not fooled into thinking it protects as well from abrasion as leather. If it did. MotoGP riders would wear textile.

The biggest misconception is that people think all textile is actually Kevlar. Hardly. In fact many textile suits don't have one square inch of Kevlar on them. There is no standard, and each textile garment manufacturer comes out with a different brand of textile with a diffrerent weave and a different name, making straight apples to apples comparisons utterly impossible.

I slipped on ice shoveling the sidewalk and ripped my jeans lol.
Leather is best, textiles come a close second and riding jeans with Kevlar would be 3rd IMO.
If you can get them with armor then bonus.
Dress for the crash not for the ride and you'll be fine ;).

I've crashed in jeans at 80, the jeans shreaded like if it wasnt there. The asphalt become embedded into my skin. The worse part was riding back home & feeling the blood trickling down my shin

how do i shot web
