Temporary HOV lanes

They can do studies all they want. We all know what happens when we shut down the gardnier on the weekend, and that is not even rush hour.

If they really want to do a study, install a traffic light on the ramp between the gardnier and DVP. Have it go red every 5 minutes for 2 minutes and SEE what happens to traffic. This will be pretty close to what will actually happen. We will see the impact all the way up the DVP...

If they want a solution, move the gardiner to above the rail tracks. Build the bridge sections in modules just outside the city and ship them in by rail and put them together like lego, well thought out the impact to rail traffic will be minimal (and they will make money on the shipping). Combine two eyesore problems into one. it will connect up at the DVP and again just passed fort york, off ramps as needed. Then Lakeshore can be turned into the eyesore grandvia they all want... Everyone wins.

Im sure those of you travelling on Gardiner, Lakeshore going East bound towards downtown enjoyed the benefits of these lanes. It took me an EXTRA 40 minutes (on toop of the usual 45) to get to downtown from Mississauga!

This is going to be hell!!!

I never got the point of HOV lanes. 3-4 other lanes suffer every single day so a few can drive by laughing at the rest of us!

What a bunch of bull!!
ahhaha its almost like you quoted my text a little bit higher up. But today's fakked up traffic was brought to you by Honda. Honda Indy to be specific.
I almost considered following the other rider who was lane splitting on lakeshore...

On the other hand HOV lanes only start June 29th. So i don't know how much it's going to affect queensway/gardiner/lakeshore corridors. Especially in the latter part of the restriction that requires only 2+ people per vehicle to qualify

There's HOV all the way out to Westney on the 401 East. Means only 2 lanes in some places.. going to be brutal trying to get to GP Bikes on Wed/Thurs evening ;-)

Lets **** up traffic for a month
1 month? lol I wish. Are you forgetting about the Para-Panam - HOV lanes from From June 29 till August 18 my friend!

emporary HOV lanes will be open to:

  • accredited Games vehicles used to transport athletes, media, technical officials etc.
  • motor vehicles with 3+ occupants (from June 29 – July 27)
  • motor vehicles with 2+ occupants (from July 28 – August 18
  • emergency vehicles
  • public transit
  • licensed taxis
  • airport limousines (on provincial highways only)
  • electric vehicles with green licence plates (on provincial highways only) Damn Hippies

I just saw this online

Temporary High Occupancy Vehicle lanes

On some routes, one lane will be converted to a temporary High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane to help athletes and officials get to and from events and make it easier for Ontario families and carpoolers to get around.

Bahahaha

How many people gonna bring the wife and kids downtown with them to work every day? I'm tempted. They can just sit on a bench and stare at trees or something. I'm tempted but I don't think she'll go for it.

Is there a group buy for stickers/permits to make our bikes accredited 'Games Vehicles'?

Just put some flags on it... make it look real official :lmao:

I thought I heard on 680 the other morning about lack of parking at the venues and trying to discourage people from driving to events...I thought the Pan-Am games were a bad idea when announced and it just keeps getting better :banghead:

Pan-Am is a great deal for us.

Will completely eliminate the idea of Toronto ever trying to host the Olympics or a World cup event in the future.

Very good point and I hope that's the case. Although as someone mentioned earlier with certain people cashing in large on the event, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't get me wrong, I think it would be great for Toronto to be able to hold this type of event. But when you have to have venues in many other cities/towns it shows that Toronto cannot handle this scale of an event. Not to mention screwing over the citizens of Toronto and GTA with all this BS.

Well, it is always the case that there is one main city hosting but many of the events are done in other adjacent cities. Can't blame Toronto on this one.
The problem here is not the Panam games, the problem is one of our leaders not having a clue about how to solve the traffic situation.

Instead of enforcing the use of passing lanes properly, they focus on speed enforcement because that is what bring dollars.
Instead of fixing the issues with bottle neck spots on HWYs due to poor planning and construction, they focus on HOV lanes in order to push people to public transit when our public transit can't support it.
They continue to lower the speed limits in city streets as soon as a distracted teen on their phone gets hit.
They continue to ignore the fact that 100km/HR speed limit on modern HWYs with modern cars is ridiculous

etc etc, so the Pana games is just going to bring a situation that is not supportable to light, but they will turn the blind eye and continue on with what they are doing.

What about single parent families.
One parent. One kid.

They cant use those lanes until the END OF JULY. Now that is discrimination RIGHT THERE! ;p

It won't end until the people who benefit from these schemes are publicly shamed and shunned. Being an "official" or whatever that gets 6 figure bonuses for feeding at the gravy train needs to made a pariah. Like the first CEO of the games that was expensing his morning double double. Is it safe for him to walk downtown without being called out for the a-hole he is? If yes, then fail. All these people should be terrified of public humiliation, so much so that they just cease to exist.

They've got no need for shame of dignity. They've got money and in this society thats all that counts.

lol

With the never ending TTC network breakdowns, I'll take my chances driving in 5 hour traffic downtown.

I ride my bicycle along the lake from Parklawn to the CN tower faster than the TTC :lmao::lmao:

I used to work downtown about 15 years ago. It took me 50 minutes from SW Scarborough by TTC and 25 minutes by bicycle (30 minutes home because of the hills). So in the same amount of time it took to commute by TTC, I got 2 workouts & showers in per day. I suspect that lane splitting bicycles are going to be the only thing moving in the City during the Games!
