Couldn't expect it any other way

..and good luck with the "temporary" part

Didn't they only sell 30% of tickets? Who's going to these games?

What a waste.

I'm certainly not going. Wasting all this money, and basically destroying traffic in the city doesn't deserve my money. And I believe most of the events happen while I'm at work anyways. I'm not taking time off for that crap.

The joke too is I essentially work at the epicentre (UTSC), and they are giving away 90% of our parking lots for the duration of both the Pan Am and Para Pan Am, yet not letting staff or anyone cancel their permit for those periods (we would have to cancel the full summer). So in other words, they are telling us we'll still be paying for parking if we don't drive, and if we do drive, we'll have to fight for parking since there is no way even half the cars will find spaces.

I'm on king west for work, and I imagine it'll be a nightmare to get to work in the morning with the games on. I'm really hoping I can telecommute for the time the games are on. That would make me so happy. I don't want a 2 hour commute.

I might have to suck it up and take the bus & go train...boooo

What's the ticket for driving in HOV? Does it affect insurance?

Answer my own question: The penalty for improper HOV lane use is a fine of $110 and 3 demerit points.

So we will have a lane with 3 cars in it while the rest of the lanes are at a full stop. I'm sure it'll do wonders for our already magnificent traffic.

It's more pressure to explore alternative methods of transportation including carpooling. If you get 2 more people into the car you can be the 4th car in that lane. :)

I bet enforcement will be top notch for the duration of the games.

Orrrrr the lines between the HOV and regular lanes should be the splitting lane.

Oh wait, thats not legal either

the "temp HOV"" lanes don't have that "seperation lane" it is merely the normal line with short dashes added beside the normal markings.

I have already begun to use arterial roads away from the 401 and with the "normal" congestion on the 401 now I can get home faster from Thornhill to Oshawa using the arterials. (Steeles/Taunton/ Rossland or Winchester I have a few to choose from. Biggest congestion is East Of Markham Rd, on Steeles where it is onely 1 lane but still move about 20Km/h average, (still faster than 401), for perhaps 3 km then back up to 80

So, as we know, the pan am games are looming. I decided to look up the restrictions on the HOV lanes. And guess what? No bikes, but hey, at least electric cars can use them.

Proof is in the pudding: http://www.ontario.ca/travel-and-re...n-am-games-transit-driving-and-traffic-routes

This would have been an excellent opportunity to test the impact on allowing motorcycles in the lanes. The government wouldn't have to commit to anything, and could record some valid usage data.

But that would require some forethought and doing something beneficial.
