Teksavvy may be handing over personal information from downloaders.....

Did you read this article? They have no intention to hand over the personal information until there is a court order and may even dispute one if it gets issued. Companies that make money off the movie distribution market, like Hell and Robbers would have just handed it over with their compliments. Also, do you think that the producers of that POS movie will only target Teksavvy customers? Hell no.. They'll be targeting everyone who hit their honeypot and Teksavvy is one of the least likely ISP's to roll over and play dead. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a TSI customer and I've never been employed by them - don't know anyone from there personally. I just know the market.

Read it on another forum. Teksavvy is gonna fight this tooth and nail. This same company tried this in US and tried to slap ppl with 10K fines.

Its a scare tactic because the gov is about to put new legislation in regarding IP and copyright. Besides currently for distribution of copyright material the charge in Canada is about 100 bucks....screw them....

If funny how these massive media corporation try to control the internet, only to end up with egg in it’s face. BBC Top GEAR freely distributes it’s shows so anyone can download it. Guess what, that show is the most profitable show ever on BBC.

You think by now they would understand how the media distribution has changed and adapt to it. There has always been something like this going on with any format of media. However for the first time in a few decades its actually in a phase in which the media company's have an oppertunity to capitalize on the ease of distribution, but no, the want to invent a time machine and go back to the good 'ol days so they don't have to change to find more profit.

Its not like they produce good movies these days. All a load of crap. TV is better than movie & i dont even wanna waste my bandwidth

This is very closely related to the Bill C-11 thread also in Romper Room...

here's a great article to read if you're interested... it's likely other ISPs are working on this very same request, and only TekSavvy is being transparent to their subscribers and public in general :

Didn't stop Yahoo from attacking them, probably EXACTLY because they are being transparent and making a real effort to protect their subs

I just toss anything that isn't a legal warrant into the trashbin. If it's not official / legal then I don't acknowledge that I ever received it.

I've had other ISPs say that it's a brave / dumb thing to do and I say: "It's actually the proper thing to do. Would you hand over someone's personal information just because I asked you to? Don't be stupid." The average person seems to be dumbfounded by this attitude, but that's part of why today's legal system and politics suck so much... sycophantic drones.

BTW I have met Rocky and Marc on several occassions and I doubt very much they will give up their data without a real fight.

It's MINIMUM $100, upto $5,000...

This new Canadian law blows although I am sure things will blow over after a few months. This has finally made me try out some of the streaming services to see if I can live with them instead of my beloved Sick Beard/xbmc setup.

I am currently testing out Netflix and Hulu along side http://www.unotelly.com all on their respective free trials. I compared both UNO Telly and their closest rival unblock-us and I think UNOtelly has a few extra features over unblock-us for a slightly cheaper cost so I am going with them for the time being. So far it has been working great. I set up my router to use the DNS provided by UNO Telly and all my devices are able to access the US stuff(PC's, tablet, PS3 etc). I tried to use Netflix normally on the Canadian Site but the content just isn't there yet compare with the US side.

I am really liking Netflix, I just wish they had a feature to bookmark things to watch later as it is rather cumbersome to have to wade through all the titles to find what you want. I know they used to offer a queue feature but it is my understanding that is has since been removed. Too bad. If anyone knows of any other tricks or methods that work well, let me know.

I haven't used Hulu much yet but it seems nice too, except for the commercials. I wish they didn't have them on their paid service, totally understandable on their free service but for the premium I think they should be removed. We will see if I stick with this or not.

Any other services that anyone has tried that I should be checking out? I was debating checking out Amazon Prime as well but it seems very similar to Netflix as far as content goes.

Join some clubs, take some classes, play some squash, etc. instead of watching IP (or any) TV. That's my advice. :)

I watch - maybe - 4 hours of television a month and that's primarily because of the Walking Dead.

Slightly off-topic, I hope you read the comics.
I like both the show and the comics, but the story is way better in the books.

The books are *brutal*. Much better than the show! Nobody is safe.

However, I notice now that they have fame, the comic series is moving reallllllll slllllloowwwwwww now. :(

TV is not my only past time(obviously, I am on a motorcycle forum), however, same as you do there are a few shows I like to follow(Walking Dead being one of them, this season has been fantastic so far) and not having cable/satellite I need a way to watch them hence the comment about trying some of the streaming options. I don't watch enough TV to justify a huge cable/satellite bill but I don't mind signing up for a streaming service for ~$10/month.
