The College of Trades is just another revunue resource tool, along with the rest of bill 119, that, if left unchecked, will run many small business trades into closure and bankruptcy in Ontario. Orgs like the WSIB have been abusing the system for so long, they now need to find funding to the tune of 16-30 billion dollars soon, to try to cover up the mistakes they have made, as well as to maintain their own personal employment. It is a new tax levied onto small businesses, tot he tune of 7.5% up to 21%. Without digging up new resources, the employees of these orgs themselves will not have paycheques to cash, so they are now chasing revenue in the guise of grossly inflated insurance, from a group of people who have never cost them a penny (self employed sole proprietors with no employees- eg: trades that work alone).
I spoke at a round table with the business and red tape critic last Weds about the problems we are facing from Bill 119.....We are hoping that things change soon and fast.
Imagine what would happen if the gov't suddenly mandated that every driving in the province now had to buy their coverage from one company.
The policy would cost everyone 4-10X more than they currently pay for coverage.
Drivers could only drive Mon-Fri, 9-5......nights and weekends there was no coverage.
If you wanted 24/7 coverage, you could buy a supplementary policy from another insurer.
If ever a claim was made, and the claimant had a supplementary policy as well, they supplementary company had to pay, and the primary would pay nothing, regardless of the premiums the claimant had paid to the primary.
.....this is just a small portion of the problems crated by this Bill119.
